Hi Guys after some advice on the following. Fitting a 3' BDL Beltdrive and a new spyke starter. The problem I have is that the jackshaft doesnt want to push into the housing on the beltdrive frame. See pics below
The hole in the holder section is 17.49mm or 0.687"
The shaft on the jackshaft is 17.09mm or 0.685"
Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated.
hi burnzi how are you i dont no any thing about open drives but u maybe able to get a brake hone and hone out the bush/ bearing a bit at a time to give it a bit of clearance .
Might want to double check your calcs, 17.49mm = 0.688" and 17.09=0.672" which leaves 0.016", might be an ovality issue
if it was me i would hone it ,as a guide measure your old pinion and cover and see what that has ,
gday burnzi do you know anyone with an adjustable hand ream,by using this you will get a nice round hole, hone may not get it right as it could follow existing shape, ive got one in warrny if you feel like a drive, lol, your mate with lathe may have one as well.
If you take it to a machine shop/engine rebuilders etc they will ream it out for you, the bush was more than likely machined to size first and the interference fit when pressed into the housing has caused it to reduce.
