Hi there my name is Ashley, and I have recently purchased an 06 Softail std.

I am a first time owner of a Harley, but have been used to riding dirt bikes for some time, so it will probably take me a while to get used to some thing totally different.

Any how, I recently purchased it from an importer from Sydney, the biike arrived here in Adelaide about a fortnight ago, and I have been to get it inspected at a vehicle inspection centre.  At the moment it cannot be registered as they need a RAWS import approval document, which was not part of the paperwork i received upon purchase of the bike.  I did However receive a document with a list of mods to the bike for compliance, with information regarding frame and engine numbers etc, as well as the name and address of RAWS compliance company which did the modifications for compliance.  I have been in contact with the seller of the bike, for a copy of the required paperwork, but to no avail.  My question is do I need to get in contact with the company that first had the bike complied for the relevant RAWS import approval document?

Cheers for your help, regards Ashley.

If you have the paperwork from the compliance workshop, & a plate (Sticker) on your frame under your Vin number, that is all that is required for Reg in Qld, as I went through the same shit about six weeks ago for my 2009 FLSTC! As for your import approval document, it should be part of your Compliance paperwork!

Unfortunately it doesn't seem that your bike has been complied, not good news Ash, my suggestion is to pm Chopaweeza in Sydney, he is importing my dream bike for me at present, and is quite a legend on this subject....(see "Importing Harleys from US") in General Discussions/Harley Related....He may be able to assist you....

Anyway welcome, there is a lot of information on this site...

Hi guys, just an update as to how I am getting along with import approval documents from seller of my bike. I have been constantly chasing these papers so that I can try getting bike on the road ASAP, motor cycle dealer faxed paperwork to vehicle inspection the other day without saying who it was for or regarding said bike. I asked him to fax me a copy this morning, and after 3 phone calls later I finally received them, due to the previous 2 attempts being sent to an incorrect number. To cut a long story short, I am still waiting for correct paperwork as the dates on the faxed items were out of whack, and didn't correspond to the time frame of arrival into the country, date of import document and  date of complianc. Hopefully tomorrow the vehicle inspectors will have received correct documentation and contact me with good news.

On a different note, can you gather paint code from the vin/chassis no? Reason being that whilst trying to get bike off a friends box trailer due to bike being to big for trailer for transport, I lost balance while seated and laid the bike on its left side and caused damage to the paint on left fuel tank. Feeling a tad embarrassed at the moment, and angry at myself for being on bike, rather than standing along side bike with both feet firmly planted on the ground instead.

Would i need to remove tanks off bike for painting or can the paint repairs be carried out without removal? Damage has been contained to just forward of the sticker below the fuel gauge.

No to the Vin number as it only identifies Year & model, I don't know about Chassis Number, but at a guess I also doubt it. It should show on the original ownership papers, or on your compliance paperwork. All else fails, your local HD dealer should be able to id it! As a rule it's wiser to take your tank off, but a good spray painter might get away with leaving the tank on the bike if he uses a touch up gun, all depends on the type of paint, how bad the damage & how much it has faded! Don't feel embarrassed it has happened to the best of us, lucky you weren't riding it or it would need more than a touch up! Cheers mate, hope you sort it soon!

Hi guys, GOOD NEWS at last. My bike is now finally on the road, and I am hoping to get as much practice on it as I can now. Thanks for everyone's posts, it has been great hearing your replies. I was wondering if anyone was going on the Red Dog ride to Clare on the 29th of this month? I am hoping to go, and it would be great to meet any members from this site. If so let me know, and keep a look out for a light metallic blue 06 Softail.

Hi there everyone, I have finally managed to upload an Avatar of my bike.

The only thing different now is the V&H 2-1 pipes which are not in this pic. I ditched the short shots due to concerns of excessive noise and tuning issues, and the V&H's sound much nicer too, and just a little quieter. Hope that they will keep away any unwanted attention from Mr Plod.

Since owning my bike I have been riding it whenever I can mostly locally, but a couple weeks ago I took part in the Black Dog Ride, South Australian Leg, where we all met down south at Willunga, from there we rode through the Adelaide Hills to Clare via the Barossa Valley. I had a great time, and managed to meet a few SA forum members along the way.

Anyhow, I am enjoying being a member of this forum and learning about Harley's along the way.
