2012 Deluxe (A/market Bits)

    G Day all,

    Brand new to the site and the world of HD. I'm getting off a Jap sports bike and put my money down on a new 2012 Deluxe.

    I'm after some feedback on this. I have been discussing options from the two dealers here in Poith. Both recommend the SE Tuner, Stage 1 air filter up grade (I guess SE, tho not sure) and I want the V&H Big Radius pipes.

    So, I'm wondering why they're so against fitting new pipes at PD, are the motors hot run Dynoed at factory? I can understand loss of back pressure, but wouldn't think it would be that much of a concern, I'm not going to be riding the arse out of it straight away. Is the K&N or other any better than the SE air intake/filter (Future engine work will happen). I have a friend who owns a 08 Deluxe and has the Power Commander 3, set to drag mode, he's had the cams and so forth done and loves it, my japper has the PC5 and it's fully programable, down the line I will do the cams for the fat sound and extra HP, but not sure whether the SE is the right choice. I personally like the idea of the PC5, but hesitant to run the pipes without the PC5 from birth, The dealers won't get the PC5 and fit it, but I can plug it in as soon as I get it home, laptop the serials in and dyno it after a couple of kms to settle the whole thing in as it runs in moreso..

     

    Any thoughs and as to why are fully appreciated, and anybody that's been through this, I'd love to hear from you as to your findings.

    Cheers Steamer. No I haven't even heard of them, will look into them tho. Noise, why else would you buy a HD, noise, bring it on, the missus is going to hate it, peeerrrfect. What is SEPST (Tuner ECU? I guess) and what is the advantage if any of teh SE Heavy Breather to the K&N Air Charger ??? Name I'm guessing.

    Thanks steamer, Had a look at the SE filter and the K&N Air Charger, I like the more classic lines and look of my Luxe for what it is and for me personally, I think the Heavy will take away from that. (Weather proofing also worries me, I know they say its moisture resistant and should draw into te engine) The Freedoms look the same as the V&H?

    The SEPST seems like a good idea, the PC5 on my Jap stays on the bike. Will read up on the SEPST.

    Had a look at the K&N HD-16111, that or the SE is going to be my first step I feel, need to see how it effects the cover and amount of flow, one or two entry points or 360Deg entry..

    I have a 3 week old 103 fatboy and I fitted the V & H slash cut slip ons , V & H Fuelpak and a K & N filter element into the original case, it sounds and runs really well, I am very happy with the result.

    It is very smooth, there are no flat spots and hardly any popping of the exhaust at all.
