Thundermax in a Fatbob

Fitted a thundermax in my FatBob with out to many dramas, just followed the instructions in the manual which I printed out.  Because the Fatbob has an alarm module I couldn't leave the data cable in.  Instead of putting all the elcetrical caddy together before initialising and loading a map I just connected all the harness etc while it was apart just in case there was a problem and I needed to get to something, but all went well.  Updated the firmware and software then loaded the selected map, no problems doing this either.  Started the motor and fist kick it started, turned it of, buttoned up the electrical caddy and tidied up the sensor cables and went for a ride.  Big improvement over stock.

At the same time I also fitted Rush slip on mufflers, now have a nice Harley sound.  Also fitted a Arlen ness big sucker air cleaner to open up the air ways.  Goes bloody good now.

Is the "caddy" an American name for the "harness"? Don't all Harleys have an alarm module? Excuse my ignorance..... help appreciated!!!

Thanks for that Bob.........actually I'm even more confused now!!! :))

I think I'll use the supplied printed Instructions to install Tmax/AT  to my Rocker rather than printing out the pdf file from the software. Sometimes, less information is better than more. If I have a problem I'll then go to the pdf manual for more clarification.

I have a feeling I will be emailing Scotty for some help at some stage!!! This forum is so bloody GOOD!!!!

    all the best

    Neil, kiteman

Ok. So I read the manual last night.  This morning I loaded in the origunal base map I had used (304) and adjusted the Speedo Cal down to 42000 and went for a ride with the GPS, was 100 = GPS and 95 on the speedo, adjusted speedo Cal to 93000 and results where 100 = GPS and 99 = speedo so left it at that. Don't think 1 kph is going to make much diff.  I did check it doing 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120 kph and all the way through the speedo was 1 kph slower than the GPS..

The original problem was doing 100kph on speedo but was actually doing 110kph, glad I got that sorted before I got any tickets.

Hi Bob and everyone! I'm new on the forum.

I've a 2008 FXDF FatBob with Thundermax Efi Autotune just installed yesterday.

How you menage the active exhaust valve? Is working or you only leave it open?

Have you got some tips with basic parameters to set?

    Thank you.

With the active exhaust valve I made sure it was open and then drilled a small hole in outer cover to fit a self tapping screw that would prevent the valve from closing.
Or you can buy a module from http://www.bigjoechoppers.com.au/eliminators.html
With your map, just pick the 1 that matches the mods fitted to you bike. eg: Air intake, exhaust, cams etc. Under the Map Editing menu do the Write "Learned Fuel Adjustments" after 5 or 6 good rides, this will apply the Learned adjustments to the map and continue the Auto tune. Don't forget to do the 3 x 30 second on off thing every time a new map is loaded and if the battery or main fuse are ever disconnected, also the IAC Auto Calibrate Idle Air control should be redone when maps are changed.
It's pretty straight forward and easy to use.
    Good luck with it.

Hi Bob, A question. When I blipping the throttle at lower RPM's with the default base setting of Accel Fuel set as 14.0 msec and Decel Post Fuel Enrichment set to 16.08%, I experience a pop or misfire in the intake tract.
After a Dyno run I set Accel Fuel at 8 msec and Decel Post Fuel Enrichment at 30.20%, I experience pinging when blipping the throttle.
Which values do you use under Base Map Setting?
Do you lower also the idle rpm?

    Thank you

For your problem when blipping the throttle I would say it's getting to much fuel, just don't blip as fast and it should be ok, or take some fuel out but that will effect your normal riding.

If you have pinging you need to check the timing values.

Basic map setting is something I can't remember of hand, they are on my other puter which I use on the bike and is located in a over in the shed.

Idle should be at 1000rpm or at least no less than 960 rpm, if it is to low it will effect the lube system and that is not good.

Zippers have a new model that suits the dynas..

You don't have to mod the electrical caddy anymore....
