hey guys ,i have been tinkering and slowly getting this old rocket sorted ,however no matter what i do i cant seem to get it to launch ,im fairly sure its just the accelerator pump ajustment on the s&s shorty ,as everything else is great , at an idle in neutral if i snap the throttle open it responds perfectly but sometimes in nuetral and almost everytime in gear it fails ,like it floods ,so i back of the throttle and roll it on slower and it goes like it should ,im just wondering if that ajustment is theat precise that im missing the spot ???
looks like a 1979 motor in & early 1978 or early frame ?, drag pipes do not like any baffles @ all + drag pipes like to run on the lean side of the fuel curve , look down the carb throat with a tourch & back the acc pump off so it only just squirts a small amount only then jet carb down untill you have a small flat spot then go up a size , but 1st things 1st , make sure fuel system is very clean tank cock & all , adjust tappets , clean & service bobweights & set points gap then set the timing or if you have & electronic ign system check with timing light @ 3,000 rpms + with the strike mark in the window then jet carb last
Try this Brakelate :

They are an easy Carb to tune but the old Iron Barrels are hard on them. The brass bushes for the butterfly flog out with the vibrations and then they can suck air and be a bitch to tune.
Back in the day when you could get leaded fuel they were the easiest carb to tune based on the colour of your pipes. They had a micture screw which enabled you to liteally lean them out or richen them up with a thumbscrew then "read" the pipes after a ride to see if the mixture was OK. I believe Avgas will give a similar colour to the pipes but have never tried it myself. A sweet running Iron Barrel will produce lovely light grey pipes.
Nice looking bike - good luck with it
