I regularly see this trike around town but it's usualy moving so I stopped to take some pics when I saw it parked today. It's registered as a 3 wheeled car so the owner doesn't need a helmet (unless he wants to avoid being hassled).

Very nice - would love to know more about it.

I like. But how does it qualify as a 'car'?

Not sure exactly, (rear axle maybe?) but more specificaly a 3 wheeled car- that's why it has the larger car sized rear number plate. There's some reason why it doesn't require a front number plate. He said "that's why you see some cars with no front number plate". Can't say that I've noticed any without a front number plate...

He has been hassled about no seat belts but since it is obviously built before mandatory sealt belts then that isn't an issue.

That's all I really know... other than it was apparently featured in last month's Oz Bike.

There used to be a rule (in WA at least) where if the front wheel was aligned with one of the rear wheels it was considered an outfit (motorcycle & sidecar), whereas if the rear wheels were aligned it was deemed a servicar. There was no helmet requirement with a servicar however whilst a passenger in a sidecar had no requirement to wear a helmet - the "rider" did.

Pretty sure those laws and definitions would be long gone now though.
