Monster Ovals on long haul.

     Hi there

I not long ago bought an 09 Electra Glide Ultra Classic with about 4000k's on it and the previous owner had Monster Ovals fitted with a hi-flow air filter. All good.

This weekend gone I rode about 1600 k's and although the MO's are louder than stock mine develop a drone at about 100-105 kmh which after an hour or so become annoying.

I know this is a "can of worms" question but I'm wondering if any other riders have had them? Like'em? Hate 'em?

And more importantly changed them with what pipes? And are happier with their choice because? And out of curiosity a CVO Electra Glide with stock pipes are they better or worse?

    Cheers

The stock mufflers on a CVO Electra glide are 4" Screamin Eagle High Flow touring mufflers.

Both mufflers have the same size outlet ( 1 1/2") and for all intent purposes, let the 110 CI donk with SE breather and SE 255 cams work quite well.

They're a fair bit quieter than the MO's, but when you shovel coal into the boiler they seem to open up and let out a real nice deep growl, without blowing your ear drums out.

In saying that, bare in mind that much to my surprise, the SEUC came with stock 2 into 1 into 2  headers that did not have that infernal exhaust brake doo-hicky flapper valve gadget installed.

The two very small Bosch O2 sensors are even placed conveniently, and next to each other at the bottom end of the headers just before the expansion box.

Nobody could tell me what exhaust configuration was going to come on the bike, so I decided to wait and see before ordering anything else.

Bonus,,, I really like the SE 4" touring mufflers, and the headers the way they come, so have left the beast as it is.

In my opinion, the CVO 4" Touring mufflers are better than the MO's. (aye! what was that you said ?)

This is a problem we don't have in WA because we are allowed to ride at 110km/h

I have them on my 2010 Road King with 103 and 255 cams.

I have done many long days and at 105 kph they are drowned out by wind noise while cruising.

What gear are you doing 100-105 in? If the drone is there in fifth but not sixth swap over and vice versa.

    cheers
