Harley Davidson Australia's version of price "cuts"

     G'day all,

Just heard about HD Australia's idea of price "cuts" for us mugs. The first one to comment on is that the Street Glide is UP 4.55% in price, yep, UP! This comes not that long after Honda cut the price of the Water Wing a massive $8000! Those of you who think this is OK ought to take a trip to the good ol USA, where Ultras are readily available for $23,000 USD ride away! Yeah, I know about ADR,shipping costs, and margins blah blah blah, but this is just ridiculous. (BTW I have been a Harley owner for 36 years, so I'm no newbie Harley basher)

There are some significant and well overdue cuts (see below) but to also increase prices on Sportsters seems insane to me, given that they are HD's entry bike for younger riders.

    Below is courtesy of www.motoaus.com

Obviously there will be some recent purchasers of Harley-Davidson's who may be disappointed to think their new possession has just devalued artificially, but given H-D's historically long ownership span (H-D owners hold on to their steed for a remarkable average of 7 years) it may not have a great effect on most recent buyers.

For current owners trading up, the old adage still applies, it's the changeover figure that matters, not the respective prices.

Of course the big winners will be those who have been wanting to buy into the Harley machine, but have found the entry ticket a little high for anything more than a Sportster.

According to H-D Aus, the prices will run for the full year without change, despite possible currency fluctuations.

The most notable price changes are shown below:

    FLHX Street Glide w/ABS, Cruise & 103" 2012 price-$34,495, was $32,995, +$1,500 (up 4.55%)

Am I wrong in thinking that considering the Aussie dollar (which is worth more than USD) the only extra price we should be paying over US prices is the cost of shipping them here - about one grand each? So why are we being shafted so badly? Even with the GST we are still taking it up the butt.

I thought the importer of Indians into OZ was ?? rich demanding 8 grand to comply your own import FFS
But I have to say that HDAU are one of the greediest companies in the world.

Did someone say monopoly , Anti-competitiveness , restrictive parallel import practices..???
They will never get dollar 1 out of me cause that dollar will cost me $2.50 fuckem !!!
    Still cheaper in NZ ??

I think the designers looked at the Transformers movie for inspiration.
Should have called it The Deceptorcon LOL

I would go a Victory in a heart beat.
Choosing between a model would be the thing.
    Vegas ?
    High ball ??
    Cross Roads ???

    All very nice..

Quite right, once something is said we should never discuss it again. Close down the site - it is no longer needed, thanks.

But seriously, I don't think HD give a flying fuck about our opinions, but on the off chance they read this I'd like them to know I wont be slowing down if I see them on the pedestrian crossing.

Infairness to HD the FXDC hasn't been $21995 for a long time ,it was around the 26k mark in 2007 when I bought my bike. And those Victory tourers look like a two wheel volkswagon
