So a couple of mates and I just got back from doing Sydney -> Melbourne / GOR / F1 GP and are now starting to plan our next trip. We are thinking Tasmania, so I have a few quick questions for you wise folk who might be able to shed some light.
We are planning for boxing day to just after new years (about 10 days) so we don't want to muck around too much getting down there, either we get the bikes shipped from sydney to hobart and fly down and meet the bikes there, or we ship them to Melbourne and take the Spirit of Tasmania across with them (I've seen a couple of people here have done that, recommended?). If all that gets too hard/expensive we'll just ride down the freeway to melbourne and back but I'd rather not do 800km of freeway on the last day.
Can anyone shed some light on costs to ship bikes Sydney to Melbourne or Sydney to Hobart? We got 1 quote for 3 bikes to Hobart came back at 4 grand, no thanks.
So if anyone has some good ideas on best way to get the bikes down there, that'd be great, could be anywhere from 3-6 bikes going.
And now for the important bit, we should have 8-9 days of riding, anyone have suggestions of must-ride roads? or parts to avoid?
This is the quick map of what I was thinking, we want to keep the daily k's down around the 300 mark so we can take our time, stop and enjoy the sites, most of us will be 2up as well.

cheers.
Mate I did Tassie a couple of years ago..went around it twice, and on just about every road that I could (4000ks)..it's all good riding, but be warned, the road's are shit..they turn to dirt bit's without any warning in some places......must do rides are The Elephant Pass and up to Poatina...and just ride home via the coast, great ride and it beat's the Hume hwy any day.....have fun...
