I use to race bicycles back in the day and two tools I bought were for tensioning bearings and cups, always came loose and bearings failed.

Mind you, I was averaging round 400ks a week.

These days, Info from old bicycle riders is that the new bearings shit all  over the old ones, no problems at all.

Strange that the later Harleys can be problematic.

    Hi Kevlar
I had 2 rear wheel bearings go on my 2008 Dyna Custom within 3 months, something to do with re design of rear axle. Traded it back to Frasers Newcastle and bought a 2010 Fatboy and I have had to replace the front and rear wheel bearings on it in under 2years. The bearings Harley use in new bikes are made in India out of shit steel so any noise you get check front and back bearings. Also be carefull if you use truck wash to clean your ride as it will get in a start rusting and pitting as well unless you rinse really well.

Was talking to my mechanic the other day whilst he was in the process of fixing some rear wheel bearings, he was saying that that the batches that come out on a few of the later model HD's had consistent issues and they've now stopped using them? Not sure whether this is tied into your issue but definitely makes you wonder how quickly and cheaply some of these things are put together, I can understand the need to save $$$ but skimping on parts that may one day kill you if they fail is pretty tough!
