2007 Softail Deluxe...I am about to do my first Oil Change on my Bike, and although have searched a fair bit still have a few simple questions.
1: i am going to go Fully Synthetic, as i have heard that you can use the same oil in Motor, Drive, and Transmission. Is this correct?
2: Going to Fully Synthetic from Mineral Based, i am curious about doing the motor oil change. It appears that you mainly just drain the Oil Tank and I was concerned about the remaining oil in the motor and pipes itself? will this mix with the synthetic or is there a process to fully remove all old oil? or is there nothing to worry about
ok this is wat i do first drain oil outta tank then take filter off put plug back in drain from tank an fill tank to normal level an start bike ..let it run till the old oil stops comin out the inlet to where filter screws on .you will see the old oil by colour then itll start to pump new oil cleaner colour once you see the new oil stop motor an fit filter then top oil up in tank ..run bike again an check by feelin if ya got hot oil goin threw filter then clean up an ya done i keep a 2l milk bottle handy cut to slip under filter b4 ya take filter off also i keep oil container from oil change b4 on other bike i give a clean an cut the side out it will fit under ya bike so u can dump old oil into it an pour into a drum to store or pour around the fence line to stop weeds n grass growin
forgot to mention i always run 50 weight in summer then in winter drop to a 20/50 in winter thick oil dont get threw the jurnals quik enough but goin to 20/50 it can but still has the viscosity of the 50 needed when the engine gets hot
in summer a motor gets hotter quiker an i change every 4k seein as it looses viscosity quiker in the warmer months
hey cookie ill call ya fri sometime after/if i can get to town floods everywhere here atm thought id use sons boat to get some smokes earlier lol
I switched to Synthetic in my 07 heritage way back when I only had 60 thousand k's on it, I now have over 150 thousand k's and still going strong..I use it in all 3 hole's....make sure you change the oil filter when you put the oil in, and you really don't have to drain every drop out, just let it all drain.....
yes mate i have the scavenger also for my ultra best thing i ever got good clean oil every time
Was always under the impression that grounding the plugs was to eliminate the possibility of igniting the air/fuel mixture that is being forced out the spark plug hole while winding the motor over. Even though the chances of a spark igniting the fuel at atmospheric press/temp are slim.
I usually remove the leads from the coil, then cover the coil with a clean rag or whatever..........just in case!
Like I said before, I have wound efi motors over, without grounding plugs/leads, hundreds of times, and havent seen an issue yet with electronics.
Maybe just lucky!!..............but doubt it!!!!!!!
