A subject not so much Bike related as much as Bike 'Riding' related:
I followed my Uncle and Cousin's footsteps into bikes, and now my son is following in my footsteps and getting himself a bike
He has had enough of sitting behind his old man
He is trying to decide between a Yam Vstar 650 Classic and a Hunter Spyder.
He eventually wants a Fat Boy and while he is stuck on his learners the Vstar Classic is pretty close in looks, but he also likes choppers, that's why he is also considering the Hunter.
I'm leaving the decision to him, as bikes are a very personal thing.
But it feels good that he wants to ride WITH me, not sitting behind me
Better resale with the Yam .
Had a Vstar 650 custom, awesome bkies, cheap for parts easy to mod, heaps of good mods on web, reliable, handle & brake good for a cruiser.
Cheers Bloodnut
Tim and Bloodnut,
the point of this thread (I hoped) was about my son continuing on in the family tradition of being a Biker. Me passing the Mantle so to speak
but thanks for the comments regarding the Vstar
I'll pass on your messages to him.
Anyone else have a motorcycling line in their family that they have taken on or passed on?
My son has a 1994 low rider and when my daughter comes home for a visit we always have to go fo a squirt...
Great to see a father and son into riding together and Dragon you look proud as punch.
I am the only rider in my family but my uncle was a rightious biker in the 70's. [Mum's little brother]
He rode one mad arsed HD chopper custom,my bike is just mad arse.He was a hotrodder and a streetmachine maniac too.
His lady said it was funny that I followed him into the culture when his own son didn't and my dad wasn't a motorhead.
I remember Dad asking me when i was around 12 what did I want to do when I got older
All I knew to say is that I wanted to get HD and cars and get into it .
From drawing them as a kid to styling my own as a father.
Not real sure what I want to do when I grow up though..
Sure is a familiar song there.
My uncle was an early full member of a still going strong old school club.He gave it away for love and family.
Something that he never had when he was younger that's what clubs did for that kind of dispossesed rider.
Me as a 5yr old remember him rocking up to visit my Mum in the druitt on something loud blue and shiny.
I saw his bike under tarp a few years later when I was mowing his lawn near St Marys.
Long twisted forks coffin tank loud paint and etched at every chromed opportunity.
Sort of looked poetic thinking about it now.He is back on a HD now that he has turned 60,A second growing spurt they call it..
These blokes more than likely bumped heads back in the early years
Kind of silly as most old school adversaries greet each other like long lost brothers these days..Respect.
You lucky Lucky PROUD bastard, out of 5 boys, 1 girl and 3 grotty snottys (grandkids, 2 boys 1 girl), they all love the bike (they say) but it is only the grandsons (4 & 5 yrs) that show any indication towards bikes. Every visit they hassel the shit out of me for rides (yes... I have to oblige) and there is always the argument of who goes first.
I didn't have anyone to influence my like love for bikes, it came from watching Motor Mouse as a 3yr old, I must be the black sheep. YEA
