Transmission help

I am replacing my clutch cable, and I have to drain the transmission.

The drain plug is located in between the shocks underneath which make it difficult to get at.

Is there a knack to get to it? What size socket would I need.

    2011 FXST.

Also, I have removed the exhaust pipes.(V&H 2-2 Big Radiuss)

Found the front nuts were loose, also in the rear pipe where it jons the head, there seems to be some wire mesh in the hole, yet there is none in the front. Is this normal? should I try and remove it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

5/8 inch socket. Yes it's a pig to get at, Be careful not to cross thread it back in as well ! 15ft/lbs torque from memory ( check that !)

The wire mesh will be from your exhaust gasket, it's prolly cactus now. Time to replace them

    Thanks, got it.

I just thought it was strange that there were no signs of a gasket in either, other than the mesh stuff in one.

I will pull it out anyway.

if you dont want to fuck around with drain plug put both wheels up on couple bits of timber an put bike on side stand it will lean enough to take side cover off box n fit cable an replace gasket ect ya may loose a cap full oil if that
replace ya exhaust nuts with new harley ones with the flat head will lock up better an use the thick gaskets thin ones will leak if ya cant tightn pipes individually

If there was no wire mesh gaskets would this contribute to decel poping???

    Thanks for the advice.

I did drain. But in future I will do the lean, as I am a stingy bastard, and could save myself a few $$$ . hahahahaaha
I will google the gaskets to see where I can get them, as I am not too impressed with these mesh ones.

    Thanks again.
