Just wondering what the general consensu for servicing these are?  I am wondering if mine requires servicing, I haven't had a look at it as yet, but am wondering what do those that have them service them at?  It says on their website that 50,000 Miles is normal intervals.

I take it you mean't K&N gauze air filter ?
I normally clean them when the normally red filter oil colour has faded or looks dirty.
Depends a lot on the conditions you ride in.

K I might do mine this weekend. I feel it is affecting the performance of the bike...Give a bit of WOT and she seems to bog down a bit.

Thanks Oz. FYI The tune was done by Scotty when I first got the bike. I had the filter put in and have run it ever since. I am wondering as the tune was conducted with a brand new clean Air Filter, and over the period of the last couple of years and close to 30K it has clogged up producing that affect with the AFR.

I will give the filters a clean this afternoon so they dry over night. Then let you know what the outcome was. If my memory serves me right this map on the bike was tuned with the Hyper Charger, just after I got my Cams done. I doubt if the two differing Air Filters, Hyper Charger with K&N or the HD Standard with K&N would make a difference.

50,000 miles between cleaning sounds crazy to me!!!!........... I know thats what K&N advise but??????

Maximum interval for me would be every engine service, and more often if been riding in dirty conditions as Ozroder said.

A blocked air filter will eventually cause poor engine performance....stands to reason.

Well I cleaned the filter tonight ans looky here it is starting to fall apart.  I have contacted K&N and asked about warrenty claim  and attached this picture.  That ring part holds the air cleaner cover on, so when that goes no cover.

Any way a lot of crap came out of the filter, so will see how it goes,  Also Oz these are new Sensors in the bike. Only put themn in late last year,

Any way I cleared the AFR and might do a V Tunbe in the morning and see what comes of it.  As has been said I left mine for about 30K and that is way to long in my mind.  Yep K&N Website says 50K miles about 80K before it should need servicing.

Another thing AJ...........be very liberal with the filter oil..............just apply the smallest amount and let it sit for a few hours if possible. It will slowly spread. If you still have some spots that are not red, then you can reapply to those areas.

If you try and coat the whole surface at one time, you will end up with red oil dripping from your filter for days!
