Hi all!
I am relocating to Australia from Canada in the near future and I am interested to here from anyone that has brought a brand new machine with them. The 2009's are now sitting on the the showroom floors and I would like to bring one down.
There is a $7000 benefit at face value including todays exchange rate.
Am I subject only to both Customs Duty and GST?
I see from another post that I would be required to change the speedo to MPH and and the turn signal lenses.
The cost of the shipping container should be a non issue as I am shipping household items anyways.
I would appreciate any comments/advice.Perhaps someone can recommend an actual person to contact that is experienced in importing Harley Davidsons from Canada.
Cheers!
Dale
Thanks Gomezz....I have sent a PM
Polar
KPH over here
Can we assume it's a Sportster or else I would think you would save a lot more than 7K!! You may also be able to claim a rebate on any sales tax that you pay in Canada if you are exporting. Just a thought.......
The HD US site says starting at $21,000. Maybe drive one home Polar!!
I have been informed that it is unlikely that Dotar will issue an import permit....
Thanks for the responses and PM's
Polar, sadly the price for living in such a great country as Oz is an absurd level of over-regulation. Luckily, we can still fart in public.... but be careful.... big brother is out there to get you and as soon as they can test for it they will ban it!
I've lived here for over 30 years and consider myself an Aussie yet I was amazed to find out recently that I can't walk my dog down to the end of my street, to the beach, with a can of beer in my hand on a warm summer evening!
Now where exactly is the harm in that!?!?
I sincerly hope that you can find a way to fit into that 12 month ruling (or other), but if not, I hope you somehow get to enjoy a Harley when you get here. You'll find plenty of mates. Especially if you buy the first round !
good luck
Neil, (kiteman)
PS we ain't got lumberjacks, mounties, Saskatchewanis or ice hockey players but I did see a beaver once!
