What a joke !!! Quote" The crackdown will also feature anti-fortification legislation, targeting criminals who fortify buildings where illegal activities happen." all they have to do is leave
the gate open whilst on premises so stupid . Next we won't be allowed roller shutters incase we are also doing some thing illegal

Yes it looks like they are attempting to sidestep any accusations of dragging their feet on this topic.
The west oz, sa, and nsw parliaments have launched their new versions over the last few weeks simultaneously so victoria dont want to be left out.
The emphasis on the words suggesting the drafting is underway means they are probably really waiting to see if all the other versions pass first.
And stretching the resources of all the state UMC's at once is probably a tactic too..we all know they like the old adage of "getting the justice they
can afford - not the justice they deserve".
As I posted in the political section. Ding,Ding round one in the west (and now vic)and round two in sa & nsw.!

I remember the Vic gov. when the S.A. Gov started the bollocks, said "why do we need to change as Bikie trouble in Vic. is less that 2% of all crime"
    how times change

Yeah thats true, then there was an election and the opposition promised to bring them in if elected..Looks like they are now pretending to honor that promise..even though the actual crime rate is the same !

They will probably copy the sa, nsw, qld and now wa model by not mentioning the word bikie, biker, motorcycle gang, group, club in the law anywhere !
They probably predicted discrimination laws would forbid it as you say badcooky.
The other state laws use the phrase " organised criminal groups" throughout. Obviously so they can say they can be used against 'any group'...therefore non-discrimatory.
Well, thats their view anyways. We know who will be the only targets.
Unfortunately, the High Court judgements in both cases, in which they voted 6-1 against the two Govs, did not cover the discrimination angle specifically that I remember reading.
So far, the decisions have been favourable because of the ineptness of the government lawyers who drafted the laws in the two states first up.
Quite small little points like the word "must" instead of "may" in sa, and the presiding judge being forbidden from giving his reasons for his decision in nsw cost them the case.
As both states have re-written their versions, using the guidelines from the High Court in 'both' cases as their template its only a matter of time before they might get it
palatable enough for the H.C to let it run !
    Interesting times ahead..
