Am slowly gettitng more confidence at pulling bits and pieces off and seeing how it all works.

One thing i am disappointed in is how many bloody cable ties are used throughout the bike. Though black on black blends in ok, I reckon they're cheap looking.

I am I being anal or has this pissed off others as well?

Suggestions to replace them with? Thought a black stainless tie of some sought but they seem as rare as rocking horse shit.....

 

 

 

 

Personally, I just like riding my motorcycle. Cable ties don't bother me.

Cable ties and duct tape hold the world together.

Plastic is soft and insulated, best for cables.

Galv wire, duck tape, cable ties. Every tool kit should have some.

Cable ties are the best thing since sliced bread. They are convenient, flexible and last forever ( if not exposed to direct sunlight 7 days a week). They usually only last a few years in the last scenario.

I would stay away from SS ties in electrical wires etc.
They could wear through and short your bike out.

Just trim you cable ties with side cutters nice and neat,don't lose any sleep over them.

I agree with all you guys, best since sliced bread. I always carry different sizes of the removable type. Used them heaps, last trip used them to retie my luggage to the sissy bar.

Comments re stainless vs plastic are good ones when it comes to potential wiring damage, good point.

I am surrounded by friggin cable ties everyday (and no we couldn't live without them!) but just thought there may have been some really cool black straps or clips out there in internet land that you could replace them with.

I wondered what they used before the fuckers were invented......

In the '70 GKN sold Qstraps ,just big cable ties, but they had a tensioning gun a bit like a cable stripper. and they cost a fortune.

you could go old school and use that wax covered string stuff. Old [valve era] radios and guitar amps used it. I'm told it takes a bit to learn the skills required to get all the knots nice and straight, but if you're willing to put in the effort it's quite a flexible system and you get a nice job in the end.
