Four men on Harley-Davidsons have held up a motorcyclist at traffic lights in Sydney, threatening him with a gun before stealing his souped-up bike, with NSW registration SVAGE, police say.

The 32-year-old man was riding his black 2008 model Chrome Horse chopper in Milperra about 9.30pm yesterday when he stopped at a set of lights on Bullecourt Avenue.

The four men, riding two Harley-Davidsons, pulled up on either side of him, pointed the gun and demanded the bike, police said.

Police said one of the men got on the bike and all four rode away towards Henry Lawson Drive.

All of the men had their faces covered and police have not been given a description of them.

Heavy Duty magazine technical editor, Doc Robinson, said the motorbike was a high-powered custom chopper.

A 2008 model would probably be worth about $25,000, depending on its customised features.

"[Chopper] is a broad term, but usually they're long bikes with forks that go out a long way," Mr Robinson said.

He said a chopper was the type of motorcycle ridden in the 1969 American film Easy Rider.

Police asked anyone with information to call Bankstown Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Its just like gun owners isnt it. All the guns were high powered assault weapons (and later its a air rifle and a 22) so all the bikes were Harley's? May be they were look alikes? I know I wouldnt be looking at the bikes if a gun was in my face.

I don't think that Robinson bloke should talk to the media.
The story is about Harley theft and all we get a technical lesson on what a friggin chopper is..

The law might change about wearing full face masks if this keeps up.
There was a ban on hooded jumpers in the early 60's because of similar happenings.

He could be telling the truth, but its a good way to explain to the insurance company how someone took your bike without having to say you left your keys in it...

If it happend to me, I wouldn't give it up. I would see how good they could ride when I take off on them, It's one thing to carry a Gun but you would have to stupid to use it. Right now the cops couldn't care less about the guys Bike, But if Shots were Fired and he had been Hit, The 4 would be in jail right now.

I think Walka is exactly what you would be, forget the bike, insurance will cover it, or you just buy another one, man, why risk your life on " It's one thing to carry a Gun but you would have to stupid to use it"

I don't know why "hero" comes to mind

bike thieves are only just higher than kid fiddlers,

I would not be happy if my bike was stolen

and stolen at traffic lights would be rubbing salt in as it is ridden away.

Hmmm, let me think, what would i really do in that situation .... i could just climb off the bike and collect the insurance OR......

I could take off at full noise through a red light and die from either being T boned by a truck or maybe a slug in the back.....

Yeah i gotta admit, thats a hard one

Yes i know there is a slim chance they would actually fire the gun unless they were defending themselves, but they are not going to try and pull this off until everything is well and truely in their favour. ie: at a time when you have no where to run.

Im a little synical, as Choppa mentioned really easy way to comitt fraud without going to the trouble of actually stealing the bike.  Lets be serious for a minute, to be in the right place at the right time with the right manpower takes a lot of planning and change?

On the other hand, if old mate was actually robbed than that really suck balls!!

Hey Cooky, where were you on the night of.........
