    Hi All

I seem to have killed my beloved fatboy and would gratly appreciate any advice..
I recently replaced the stock handlebar switch housings on my 2011 fatboy with chrome units Everything worked fine but after 2 days the battery was completley drained. This was due to a wire which had been damaged in the changeover of the handlebar switches. Having repaired that I tried to jump it off a car battery. Lights came on but fuel pump wouldnt even work. Had the battery trickle charged but now nothing electrical works.
Battery is reading 10.5 volts only
Have renewed fob battery and disconnected Power Commander - still nothing not even dash lights and fuses are OK
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I would think the battery could be rooted...My young blokes 94 wouldn't start with the old battery fully charged or trying to start it off jumper leads but with a new battery in it,it fires up every time...

If the battery is only showing 10.5 volts after being charged. There is a high possibility the battery is fucked.

Grab another battery (not conected to anything). A car battery...

Disconnect the leads from your bike

Join other battery to bike leads using jumper leads.  + to +       _ to _ .Dont touch any other metal with the positive lead.

Kick her in the guts and see what happens.

If you have had a dead short in the past it is possible it could be something else.

    But start with battery

Check the main circuit breaker. One of the relays could be toasted so swap them around to see if it's a bad relay. Fingers crossed you didn't screw the ECM jumping of a car battery.

Thanks mate - appreciate it. But I should add that the manual does say you can jump start - just dont have the car motor running. In any event the thing still wouldnt turn over - even with car battery hooked up. Wiil have to give up and take it to a dealer I guess.

Here in WA the dealers sell new Harleys with a trickle charger wired in at PDI

Too many warranty claims for batteries from the fly in fly out mob

Remembering it's hard to put the alarm "off" since 2007 model year

In their 3 weeks away gig the batteries were toast

So yes , a battery on a 2011 could well be rooted, especially after a "dead short" that you described

Now you can buy a "Dekka" brand battery well cheaper than a "Geenyoowine" HD job. ( MADE BY DEKA ANYWAYS !!)

I HAVE ALSO SEEN BIKES AS YOUNG AS YOURS WITH BLUE GUNGE COPPER CORROSION IN THE IGNITION SWITCH

That's worth a look and free apart from labour

Anything below 11V is a fucked battery. If you try and jump from a car, the now fucked battery will suck most of the current. Change the battery with good one.

Did you have good earths ect, can the ignition switch cope with the extra amps from a car battery?

Use a large earthmoving or truck battery, it wont do any damage to anything,

As long as it is 12 volt and by itself.

Did just that. Only thing is it'll cost a bomb - no matter how simple the repair and they wont even look at it for a week just to justify the expense ie you think it took them that long to fix it but..........
