Airhawk or Gel Pad?

I need some sort of pad because every time I go for a long ride now I get a sore tailbone which aches for days, so I was hoping someone who might have tried both  can give me an honest comparison? I have heard great things about both, and want to get the best there is. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A while back you could get the air hawk sent out and trial for a certain amount of time before paying for it and if you were not happy send it back.(shows a confidence in their product)
My mate did it and said to me he would be fucked if he was giving it back as it was too good. He has been raving about how good it is for ages
So i ended up buying one 2 weeks ago and rode all last weekend with it. They are great and i wont be going without one on bigger trips ever again.
Got mine on ebay but careful not to buy an imitation. they have diff sizes for diff seats too

Purchased the Airhawk seat from th Airhawk Guy (top notch service) :-

    airhawkguy.com.au/content.php

Paid over the phone with a CC and he posted it overnight to me so I was able to use it on a long ride a few weeks back.

I spent a fair bit of time letting air out during the ride.

I know I haven't got the inflation level right yet - and I guess it might take some getting used too.

     - NOT yet convinced that it is a true improvement over the standard FLSTN seat.

     - Didn't really like the sensation of sliding around.  Felt a bit like sitting on a greased oven tray.

In my hunt for comfort the next test will be lambswool.

yeah takes a bit of adjusting to get the air level right but it should not slide around at all. i have not even got
the straps that come with it attached under the seat and i dont feel as if mine moves at all. might be a stupid statement
but make sure its up the right way, i know my missis had it ass up for a bit.

    AirHawk

I have a pressure injury from operating mining machinery. After sitting for an hour it's like a hot knife being slowly pushed into my bum cheek. I usually suffer for days once I set it off and I have to get into anti inflamatories to settle it again. Long car trips, plane trips and bike trips are literally a pain in the arse. Nuerophen or the likes control the pain.

As for the toughen up remarks, some people are a little narrow minded. Everyones make up, anatomy, injuries are different! We can't all be perfect finely tuned atheletes like some!

I started with sheep skin and found it flattend out after a few rides and was only good for keeping your seat cool. I then bought an Airhawk and haven't looked back. Can usually last half a days riding before hitting the pain killers. But better than nothing. I have heard the gel seats cause sweating but probably no more than your seat would.

The Airhawk takes some time to get used to as it alters your sitting position slightly and feels unstable, but with anything, the more you use it the more you get used to it. Mine feels normal now.

Depending on your 'condition' it maybe the answer.

Also try to alter your sitting position by moving handlebars, changing riser heights etc. Might help.

On a serious note though FXR, have been looking at a gel system myself. I've got a seat of a 48 on my iron and its not exactly the most comfortable seat in the world, also have a touring sundowner seat which is awesome but is a bit much without a pillion.

If you are looking at a lambswool you should try to get one that hasn`t been bleached. Bleaching removes the lanolin and makes it look pretty but you lose some of the cushion effect. Had mine for about 15 yrs and it`s just starting to fall to bits.

I used a Air Hawk when I went around Tasmania the other year and once you get the inflation right they are great. The wife had one for herself as well and she loved it. Whenever I go on a long trip now I make an effort to put on the seats, anyone can be uncomfortable on a bike. They do take a bit of getting used to as well.
