New HD Iron 883 - Negotiation tips

     Hi All,

I'm in the market for a brand new Harley Davidson. I took the Iron 883 for a test ride recently and found it to be a nice ride. Besides that, it looks amazing and I've always wanted a Harley!

I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on negotiating a better price? Is there much room to wiggle on the RRP of $14,250 (NSW)? If not, should I try and get some discounts on mods I am looking at (exhaust, fwd controls, handlebars)?

I've never bought any vehicle brand new so any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Also, I'm 6'2', roughly 183 cm, what sort of handlebars would suit my height? I like the look of ape handlebars and drag bars alike, but am looking for comfort in the end.

    But good choice!

G'day Iron Cross, I've always found buying with cash gets me a better price, but I have always done my research and knowen exactly what I want and other retailers prices (don't let the shop workers tell you what you want), hope you get a bargain and ride safe.

Good luck on getting a discount on ya bike mate, you'd be very luck if they do. Play them for the mods/extras that you are after, as for the bars, i have 8" mini apes on mine, im 5'6 and have bad shoulders and find them better than stock bars as i was leaning more forward and rotating my shoulders and putting more body weight on them, i've been thinking about going 12-14" bars soon. but yeah i'd wait and ride it first to see how they feel then go from there. have a look at road6customs for some good quality and cheap bars. If they wont throw in any extra's ring around mate, all the dealers do different deals, i got my bike from Horsham and was worth the drive as the city wanted 2k more on the extras, and they even paid for a room in a hotel for the night....

Keep us updated and welcome to the forums.

    Regards T1

Herne, a free open face? Get real, the dealer can doo much better than that! That is only an $80 cost, if that. If your going forsome extras, go for a discount and get the dealer to go for free fitting at a minimum.

Welcome...Do the right thing for yourself & go for the comfort factor over image. My sporty started life as a 883, & has been slowly turned into a great little tourer & is very comfortable on long trips. The screaming eagle 2 slip ons are a great improvement over the standard ones, & I have got through several bike stops/checks. (Sometimes I held my breath). If you intend doing long trips eventually, think carefully before putting on real noisy pipes, unless you have good ear plugs. Stage 1 air & S/E slip-ons improved the performance & economy with off the wall maps. (I have a set of S/E slip-ons your welcome to try if your anywhere near Gippsland in Vic).

Enjoy your HD & enjoy the the journey. Ride Long, Ride Hard, Ride Free & above all, Have Fun.

Welcome I/C. I grabbed my 2010 Iron second-hand with low kms for the right price & did the stage 1 (pipe/air-cleaner/tuner) with the end cost less than a new bike. Worth considering if you can find that elusive bargain. Good luck with it all.

    Slap.
