Given that I don't know what this flapper thing does I don't think I have any drama's yet. Why should this mod be done?

    Hi Bob,

the butterfly is installed to limit the noise generated during normal riding conditions. It blocks off one of the exhaust pipes and diverst all the gases through the smaller of the two muffler boxes. It opens up over approx 100 kms and lets the engine breathe a little better ( you are still going through the stock muffler boxes so there is still some limitation). Keeping the butterfly open will help the bike breathe better right across the rev range.

As mentioned above, there are hard and soft approaches to keep the butterfly open. 1 is Brute force (rivet, weld, teck screw that sucker), the other is using the eliminator plug which is 100% reversible, should for some reason you need to get inspected for noise....(chat to crasher.....)

have a look at our website for some more info on the exhaust eliminator. www.bigjoechoppers.com.au

    hope that helps

    Cheers

    Mick

Thanks for all the replies, understand it now. Will probably take the cheaper option.

I've got an 07 Fatbob. The only thing I didn't like about it was the exhaust system... I don't like the rear cylinder pipe running along my leg like a heater.... so I ordered a set of Vance and Hines Short Shots. The pipes arrived, and I fitted them, but there's no provision for the flapper valve! And now I'm waiting for baffles to arrive! If I open up the control box behind the rear cylinder, can I just remove the cable?
