well here you go guys, found what demolished the spark plug. talk about a silent death. cut out all quiet. hit the starter button and there was a grinding noise. hit again and just click, hence why original thoughts were starter. other than that grinding noise there was nothing.
surely that valve could not have been bouncing around in there for long ? those holes were made just by one or 2 strokes ?
..... more pics in a thread in the sporty section if interested.

when you do a 883 to 1200 you must re check the valve too piston clearance because the 1200 piston has the valve reliefs cuts in ther piston crown out further than the 883 head . e.g. 883 piston 3 inch dia -1200 piston 3,500 inch dia that is 1/4 inch different each side inlet & exh the 883 valves are more inboard than a 1200 head , you have too cut new valve pockets in the piston 0.250" inboard for valve too piston clearance , but depends on the brand as well , but buy the pic's looks like that was not done , + give a little bit extra clearance on the top ring-end gap does not hurt , most 883 too 1200 are not done proper i have found as comp ratio set up + on stock cams = not a long lasting donk, i have a couple of sets of 883 heads left over if you need them as i use too race in the 883 twin sport class , the old roaring sporty's race series i use too do the heads for quite a few race teams inc John Allen , robbie Hermens , Lenny Willing all top aussie champ riders
