Hi all,
Just done the deal on 2009 FLHT Electra Glide Standard, 24,000kms , cruise, Abs brakes, upgraded pipes. No other bling, for $22,000 drive away. Oh, nearly forgot, new rear tyer! Happy as pig in shit! I'm fairly new to the forum, and I would like to thank the members for all their advice and comments, they were all a great help in me making a decision , with regard type, style of bike etc. It's been 10 years since I'v had a Harley in the garage, and just can't wait to get out there. Just one more question, bike was bought in Adelaide, I live in NSW. Bike has 3 months rego left in SA, I know you should (have to) rego in NSW within 14 days, is there a big 'drama' if i run the SA rego out . I live in the country , so the chances of being pulled over are pretty low, and it is only 3 months ! Thanks again, Mark
Congrats on the purchase, Mark. Not sure about the rego thing. 'She'll be right' covers most everything except when things go wrong and the Authorities run a fine toothed comb over the details...
I'd imagine you'd get a small refund if you cancel the SA rego; worth asking/phone call?
Anyway, ENJOY!!
The date listed on the license transfer/change of owner form is all telling.
What you gunna tell them when you eventually do the business,,,,,, three months later?
small things like greenslips and insurance need to be considered if you have an accident and havent transferred the rego .............. i dont know the answer , but small stuff like this is something i dont mess with ....
and as far as i know you wont get any sort of refund on the balance of SA rego ..its just 'lost" and NSW rego starts upon the sale date regardless of when you transfer.
so basically there is no prize dicking around with rego
enjoy the ride
After doing some research on the internet, I agree with most of the comments. Just to risky and to much drama to try and use up the 3 months rego from SA. The rego is just forfeited. All is means is that my NSW rego, green slip, blue slip etc is brought forward approx 10 weeks, as I have 14 days to pay. I realised buying from Adelaide there would be extra expences, travel etc, but the price was right and that is where the bike was. Thanks. Mark
I don't give credit to the opinion of living out in the country presents less risk of being sprung.
In fact, my experience living in the sticks has proved that there is every chance of being pulled over by the federallies every time you're seen, even if it is just for a chat by the local copper, (who takes great interest in what's happening in his patch)
Well known fact that if you want to hide, do it in the middle of the biggest City where there's hundreds of thousands of faces.
You turn up, or live in a Country town or remote area and everyone will want to know who you are and what you're doing, before long they'll even know when you're going to fart,,, long before you do.
edit; Oh! and BTW, if they get it wrong, they will always assume something on the sinister side.
