Word to the wise.....

Well, despite advice from many, I found that fitting SE pipes on the wifeys, and my Sporties ( stock 2009 Low and Iron), made the things run way lean, giving a bad plug reading, and  a surging effect on steady,or light throttle opening.

So, after much research, I cancelled my previous order for a Fuelpak, (after reading too many bad reviews online),and have gone with a Cobra auto tuner, and V&H naked a/c, for my Iron, and a set of xieds for my wifes Low..

Will let y'all know how I get on..........................

Birch I put xieds on my iron when I put the short shots on and they worked great(stock a/c). I just changed to Screamin Eagle slip ons last week and they are still great. Good plug colour, no popping on decel ( unless going down a gear at high revs). Very happy with them

Birch, I'm almost at the point of ordering a Cobra autotune myself, your experiences will be greatly appreciated.

    Update time.

The xieds turned up less than a week after ordering them, and came all the way from Florida! Fitting took seconds, and the results are really impressive. Feels great to ride, and has definitely improved throttle response as an added bonus. Not yet sure about fuel economy, but don't really care.

The Cobra and a/c turned out to be a bit of a drama, with very poor customer service from DirectHarleyParts. They had the cheapest price, but I would never go with them again. They kept me waiting for ages on the order, sent me a seperate  invoice for shipping (which was already paid for), ignored my chat-line messages, lied about shipping dates, and generally stuffed me around. The worst part was that they eventually sent my stuff five days after I told them to cancel the order. Will go back to Cyclepartsforless next time, or someone else who will price match DHP.

But anyway. Parts arrived in good shape and are beautifully boxed, almost jewel-like.

Instructions for the a/c were straightforward, except for the routing of the breather hose. Looks awesome, and finally my leg does not stick out wide on the right (something I always hated about the Sporty....).

The Cobra was pretty straightforward too, and tho they tell you to mount the unit first up, I found it easier to do that last, after all wires were connected, and routed properly. But the biggest problem i found was accessing the earth bolt. I ended up earthing it to to the battery, as I had read someone else had done, and that seems to work fine. Was very nervous about the initial startup, and it seemed to crank over a little longer than usual, but fired up,and seemed to run well. Took the bike out for a run,and it seems smoother, more responsive, and somehow lighter feeling on the throttle. Also, oddly enough, it seemed to be somewhat quieter, tho I may be mistaken,as it was a very windy day.

So,that is my initial impressions. The Cobra is easy to fit,and does what it says on the box, with no need to stuff around with adjustments, no matter what mods I may add in the future, but realistically, if I had my time over, I would probably save the money, and just have a Stage1 kit, with a set of vieds (xieds that are adjustable).

    So there ya go

Had a thought, and some spare time,so I thought I would do a direct comparo between the two, and fitted my wifes xieds to my Iron, and disconnected the Cobra. Well, it ran at least as well with just the xieds, so, if anyone is interested in a near-new,still under warranty Cobra Powrpro for a 2007-2011 Sportster, then send me a PM.
