Another oil temp thread

Ok, so I have done a bit of reading and searching and can't seem to get a definitive answer.

I recently purchased a oil temp oil cap for he fatty and today after a 35 minute casual ride, most of it in 6th at 100, the oil temp showin was 250F

Does that seem a bit high??  Temp outside would have been 24c at most.

The bike is stock other than airkit and big radius pipes and a tune??

I recently re-mapped with one of the new maps release by TTS.  I had been running a Kurry map for a while, and might change it back to see if it makes a difference.

    Thoughts???

    Cheers

first... I think if you hold the button for 5 or 10 seconds it will change to celcius...

Mine runs at anything from 107 - 130 celcius... but highest I've had is 141.

    250F = 121c

not sure whats normal, but have notices that softies can be 10 degrees cooler, might be because they have an oil resevour

    Thanks lads,

Mine is the analogue dipstick gauge that I bought from my local dealer. No button to change to C, just a dial with numbers.

I might take it out and test it in boiling water.

Check them in boiling water if you want to know how close they are to being on the money.

I might stick it on the TTS software and see what it states.

250 is way hot in my book. My motor runs 190 to 230 depending on riding conditions and heat. 230 degrees is roasting my nuts in stationary traffic and I normally shut the bike down. Have you done any Vtuning with the MT8 file or just loaded a canned map.

Well 230F is only 110C and 250F is 120C so not a huge difference. I have only loaded the canned map, and might go back to the Kurry map as it seemed to run better and pull harder than this stock map.

I have done a bit of reading and 250 seems about on the money. The rear cylinder shut down does not happen until 290, so Im not that concerned.

I brought my Jagg 6 row cooler but waited until I fitted a temp gauge with the sender in the sump. My bike was on average 270 degrees until the Jagg cooler went on bringing the temp down to 240 degrees. Synthetic oil brought the temps down to another 10 degrees to 230. The next major drop in temp was fitting the TTS tuner and Vtuning bringing the temp down to 200 . The stage 2 heads brought my temps down to 180 to 200 . When im stuck in traffic idling for 5 minutes my temp climbs to around 230 but drops as soon I start moving again. 230 on my bike is nut roasting and thigh's burning as I have no heat shields on my bassani 2-1 pipe. I live on the mid north coast so it gets fucking hot so the oil cooler was my best investment I made for my bike.

Jagg has a new 10 row cooler with twin two speed fans that run on a thermostat  or manual override switch. There about to release the second model in a few weeks. If I had the money that's what I would be fitting on my bike but the 6 row does a great job cooling the bike when moving. As you know I live on the north coast with fuck all traffic and a few sets of lights in town so my main problem is getting stuck in road works on the pacific hwy.  I just shut the motor down and hit the decompression caps for restarting.
Hope all is good in hospital bro take care and talk to you as soon as you get home.

    UPDATE!!

So I tested the gauge in boiling water and it was spot on. Went out and re-mapped the bike with the old Kurry map that I have been running since they released it and wen't for a blat. 30 minutes in 27 degrees and the temp was down to 200 when riding and popped up to 220 when left idling in the sun.

I gave it a bit of a hiding up and down hills etc, and 200 when riding was all it would hit.

So I would say the new map from TTS is probably a good place to start, but I would need to seriously V-Tune it to get it right. This map from Kurry seems to be the sweet one for my current setup.

All that will change when I drop a set of cams in it, but for now, all is well.

    Cheers
