Agree with all of the above.

If one was to ride within the boundries of the max speed limits in OZ there would never be any need for 6th.

6th gear comes into play in Europe , UK, and the USA on the Aotostradas, Autobahns, Motorways and Interstates where maximum speed limits are considerabley more than OZ.

Once you get up to and over about 130 kph and intend on cruising at 160 plus, the 6th cog does come into it's own.

Only time it would come in handy here is to turn the donk over slowly by hand when the back wheel is off the ground, performing maintenance and such.

(and besides, the little green indicator light is a pain at night and distracts ya from seeing them big hairy prehistoric grass hoppers ! )

Used it a bit while riding in the U.S.A.   My trike started it's life as an Ultra Classic, so all the gearing etc. is still that. Interesting point about the fuel consumpton

For me, 6th above 100 km/h and engine seems happy but hit an incline and it's time to change down to keep going.

If I'm riding down hill at motorway speeds I'll also change up to 6th and let engine 'relax' a little,

guess I'm conscious HD's are air cooled and worry about over-heating.

Not sure about gearing on a trike though.

6th is a highway only 115km/h+ proposition as far as I am concerned.

I liken the ratio's in the cruise-drive transmission to those in my SS Commodore, the sixth gear in the SS is just as fucken useless, so I put 4.11 diff gears in the wake the bastard up.

I would like to investigate the same possibility with my Dyna too.

I use 6th alot, usually get up to about 120k's so its not to hard on the motor then ease back to cruising speed, or sometimes keep the rev's up and cruise at a more desirable speed lol .... although, if i'm giving it a gut full in 5th and quickly flick into 6th at fairly high revs it takes off like a rocket .... love it !!
