As an owner of a new Fat Boy with the all the security alarms etc. I am thinking just how secure this bike is. Does anyone know if this system can be overriden or if any one knows of a bike been stolen with the new alarms etc. I have had one bike stolen back in the '80's but I got it back, yep I know who stole it & he is unable to do that again ,,hehehehe. NO he is not dead just educated.

I know if someone wants your bike they will probably fine a time when they can get it, I just need to know how effecfive he new system is.

I hate anyone who would take another mans bike. But revenge is sweet,,I know

It's more secure than a Harley without a security system.

I can't say I've heard of the alarm being disabled without the proper procedure being followed.

Even if it could be done, I don't think an open discussion forum is the place to confirm it.

I believe they're not stolen as much as in the 80s and the current insurance rates would reinforce that theory, Have you changed the bypass code on the alarm? The default code is the last five digits of the VIN, so that makes it easy for the thief.

when they stole my bike they moved the two alarmed ones and took the non-alarmed one...

alarms will always scare off the wannabes, the pros will take it, if they want it.

Well Alan, we are in a completely different era these days, harley's and the parts are everywhere and easy to get hold of ... in my opinion only ... i dont think harley's are any more attractive to steal than any other high budget bike, UNLESS it is a classic and the parts are easy to move, i think the security system is about as good as it gets, but, of course it depends on where you live and how and where you secure the bike. And yes, i think the thieft of harley's has gone down alot since the 80's.

As far as possible, the bike is in my sight, unless locked in the garage. Paranoid I guess.....

I bought a blue one - who is going to steal that?

Mind you, there could always be a low-life Smurf out there somewhere looking for a free ride...

Jeezus guys, I don't know why people keep putting shit on Sportsters, honestly, bluddy fuck!!   Truckloads of world records, drags, flat track, landspeed (all this bitchin is posted elsewhere,I know)  It's all in jest, yes,but disheartening to hear the good ol sporty rubbished by Harley owners.  Get fucked, I'm going to work and gunna snivel all day.

Like some of said - Insure it!!

I couldn't give a shit! If they take it - I get a new project. :) Mine is locked up at night, but when I am out and about, I don't use anything. I sometimes lock the ignition so some prick can't flatten my battery, but that's a rarity.

If someone wants it bad enough, they will take it. If they do! Good luck to em!

Had my bike parked in a Hotel  carpark on the seafront at Bondi last week overnight on the 1st level near the exit. I was leaving at about 11.00am and when I walked past one of the Hotel saff with my riding gear in my arm he said my alarm had been going off of a few hours. ????

So make sure you got good insurance.

Reckon a good talker could pick a bike up in the main street with a hoist on the back of a small truck alarm & lights flashing & get away with telling people that it is annoying that he has to do this now & then cos the bike won't start -- that is if anyone queried them.

    Absolutely!

A large part of deception is convincing others you're meant to be there. I work with Shopping Centres and a while back there was a spate of of robberies involving the 'toy machines'; ya know the ones where you put in ya coins and use the claw thing to grab a teddy and drop it onto the slab and then collect it?

I was alerted to this by the Owner of the machines and I sent a memo to all Retailers close to these machines. 'Be aware of this deception, if you see anyone moving these machines during trade please let me know'. The method of operation was the grub would push the toy machine into a fire exit and bust open the coin collection out of view.

Sure enough, the very day I sent the memo someone did exactly this. A Retailer phoned me to say a machine had just been wheeled past their shop and into a fire exit. Long story short he got away coz his mate in the car had seen me shoot into the 'Police Beat' and fly inside looking for him. We juuuuust missed him as he leapt into the getaway car (false rego plates) and peeled outta there. He hadn't quite busted into the machine when he left site.

I spoke with a bloke who'd been selling raffle tix alongside the machine and he reckons the grub had spoken with him about how the toy machine needed servicing and he'd push it into the fire exit so as to have some privacy!

So yeah, there's plenty of ways to look legit as described above.
