Why does it matter where it is made as long as it is well manufactured?

i agree, i would not buy made in India.

now i've been searching looks like just the new 2012 Sportsters are  put together in India. but also found Harley also made in Brazil.

i don't like the way Harley is heading trying to cut costs. like also been told they used cheap bearings. i remember reports on wheel bearing failure.

my 2001 FXD has been an outstanding Bike. still has original wheel bearings. only problems in 90,000k of hard work & abuse, has been crank sliping out of copoling at crank pin 80,000k & cam sharft tentioner falling apart ( replaced with gear drive 30,000k starter clutch failing twice just put new starter clutch in but 220 pound cranking is not easy.. alternator magnets falling out @ 81,000k & 10 years of hard riding longest lasting Cow @ LA cyles has seen in 30 years wrenching HD rear engine mount failure @ 180kph on track ( that was exciting! kept it on two wheels somehow ) lifter case hardening fail on rollers 30,000k put in Jims Hydra glide lifters no trouble since rev it to 7,200rpm

she's taken me to broken hill & back, top of Queensland two up & back Vic & back has run 11.3 122mph and she is just a 95" baby.

so Ethle has been a good ride.made in USA too

It's unfortunate, but every manufacturing company, in order to maximise profits and produce cheaper goods, will eventually build their stuff in either India or China, where they still practice economic slavery.  Same shit has just been exposed with electrical goods everything from Iphones to Xboxes are made in China by a company called Foxconn.  400,000 "employees" working in one big sweat shop.  Built by hand and not by machines because it's cheaper.

TM think some HD wheels have been cast in ADL for a while now, also at one time EVO rocker box's. but my 2001 FXD spoke wheels had Made in Italy on them, so there you go m8.

thats sad to hear as we have always been at forfront of alloy casting here, at least thats what i've been lead to beleive.

i'm thinking the same company in ADL could have moved business to China for labour cost saving, would not be first to do so.

i'll make sure the new bike has spoke wheels, now were are the spoke wheels from?

    thanx BC,

hey i'm also wondering if the Blackline only come with matt black paint on frame? it looks wrong to me with gloss paint matt black frame i need a glossy frame. i'm an old man & that colour was on dunny cans they used in the loo's in my youth & think its effected my way of looking at the colour with no gloss & black. but just on my personal bike everyone else to what they like personaly.

FWIW I worked with a guy on the Gold Coast years ago, he had a Royal Enfield.
He said it was reliable, started first go every time winter or summer.
Didn't cost much to service, and as far as I know all the time he had it he had no major problems.

Done a delivery to the Alloy wheel plant in Plympton last week of (concrete), lucky I guess got to see alot of wheels. There still making them until end of the year.

Also found this on Harleys in India for you,

Harley Davidson to make its motorcycles in India

First plant outside of US to roll out high-end bikes in 2011

Harley Davidson has chosen India for its first overseas plant to build its iconic bikes.

The plant that is modelled on "complete knock down" (CKD) method of assembling will come up in the northern Indian state of Haryana and roll out the firt bike in 2011, CNN reported on Thursday.

"What we are doing is made in USA, assembled in India, which will have a positive job effect back home which is why we are driving this investment as quickly as we are," a CNN report cited Anoop Prakash, Managing Director for Harley Davidson India.

Under the CKD agreement, Harley Davidson India will import parts from its parent company and assemble them at the Haryana plant.

India, the world's second fastest-growing two-wheeler market after China, plays an important role in the company's plan to expand its brand, he said. More than 10 million motorcycles -- most of them of up to 200 CC engines -- were sold in India in the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

"We see a distinctive credible growth story here," Prakash said.

Besides the obvious market potential in India, Harley Davidson aims to bring down the cost by getting the bikes made in India. This could end up with savings of up to 80 per cent on import duties, which will help bring down the cost.

Harley Davidson that went on sale in India in July 2010 has already met the target of 200-250 bikes for the six months of its retail operations there.

The company is set to open its fifth dealership in the tech-city of Bangalore this month.
