My name is Phil. New to the site and very new to the great nation of Australia. I'm an American ex-pat living in Bahrain where I live and work at the moment and where I met my Aussie wife. We'll be moving to the Melbourne area in 2013 and looking forward to do some serious touring. Eventually, I hope to circumvent that entire country.
I will post again with my questions, which for now will be mainly the logistics of getting my machine imported to the country and the cost and conditions that will take. I have a stock exhaust system on my 2012 FLHTK and I would like to slap on some V&H dresser duals and Monster Ovals, or perhaps some 3.5 inch Rineharts - can't decide just yet.
My number one question! Will it be difficult to import my bike with a modified exhaust system as mentioned above?
Cheers Mates! Looking forward to joining the Aussie HD community if ya'all will have me!
G'day Phil, should not be a problem to import your bike but to get it registed will be another thing, have to wait and see (keep and bring stock exhust), ride safe.
welcome
Gday Phil
Welcome
Welcome on board.
You'll need the stock exhausts to get compliance/Victorian registration so may as well bolt them on before ya leave and bring ya after-markets in ya luggage.
G'day & Welcome Phil.
Welcome Phil hope you enjoy the forums and of course we will have you.If they have me they will have anyone LOL.
Thanks Isaac.
So tell me, how does this work for the registration? Do they inspect for noise compliance one time for initial registration and thereafter it's fill out the paperwork and pay the money each year the registration comes due? Or is the bike inspected each year?
What about out on the road once the exhaust is modified again? Is there some noise compliant officer hiding in the bush waiting to check my pipes with a decibel meter?
I was looking at a lot of the bikes in the Touring section and I notice many, many photos of bikes with V&H power dual, dresser duals, monster ovals, monster rounds, Rineharts, etc. I know for a fact many of these pipes are fairly loud. Does one have to worry about noise violations very often or what?
Thanks for the feedback!
Phil
Right down the middle mate!
It will be my shout for sure -soon as I get there!
