    Hi all,

I've been thinking of trading my 2001 FXD for a 2012 Switchback. I would certainly value any advice, experiences, comments, or opinions before I blindly take a plunge.

As it is such a new model its hard to tell if its its going to be a decent bike. Bear in mind that a bike that i enjoy or have a good opinion off may not suit you. The 103 motor does respond well to basic mods.

Well you asked for opinions. I don;t like the look at all, reckon its all wrong proportion and line flow wise, just plain boring and ugly. I don;t see them being popular for the long term in that guise but hey I am wrong 99% of the time and 1% when the wife lets me be right

there aren't to many bikes that give you more than you need in a standard trim and allow you to easily remove those extra parts for general riding. I like 'em.

Thanks for the input fellas, very muchly appreciated.

I spent a few hours last night trolling for reviews, checking other forums etc. and the results were the same as here i.e. most comments were favourable with a few against.

Went and had a look this morning and they're much nicer in person. I took one for a ride and I was impressed. Plenty of go, good braking, easy handling, but I was still unsure because I was comparing it to my FXD. They are different.

Anyway, to cut a short story shorter, I took the plunge and I'll be bringing it home early next week.

note to self: better start thinking about a new avatar.

On Softail motorcycles, the shock absorbers or springs are often hidden underneath out of view to give the appearance of a hard-tail or rigid frame featuring a rear suspension system with springs or shock absorbers to absorb bumps...great!

Good luck with it m8, i think if i get a new HD will be a softail Blackline or standard, but will keep my 2001 FXD its very responcive!  but looks like shes had the ring ridden right out of her. but rides sweet. i just like the slim feel when i sit on the blackline, some of the new models are a bit fat in frsame to get a fat rear wheel in. my FXD has a slim feel. but everyone to what floats there boat. have fun m8

    I like the Switchback.

When it comes time to move on from my street bob, I'll be cross shopping a Street Glide and the Switchback.

I can honestly say the first photo I've seen of the Switchback was just now thanks to the 'topic links' posted by Enforcer (and how happy did ya Missus look on her red one, Ya Champion!!)

Going purely on looks I like 'em. Appearance wise I thought 'Road King'. I'll definitely be chasing a test ride on one of these.

And dieter, ya got me worried mate. How's about an intro? Not here, on the introduction threads. I was looking at your 0200hrs posts and the Softail bits look like cut & pastes. No offence intended, but who are ya and whaddya ride?:

Trev, how's the indicator bar mounted to the rear fender? Looking for options and I currently have mine mounted to the bottom shock mounts.
