Ok guys, I'm a American who is looking to visit your country in the next year, what is the best time to come ride, we are wanting to go from like Ssdney to Portland riding down along the coast.  Not sure if I just want to rent a bike and go it with my bride, or do a tour with one of the motorcycle tour outfits.  Anyone know anything about Reuther's tours or West Forever? Or do you have any other suggestions or know of other outfits.  Appreciate any advice you could give us.  Thanks.

And spend a bit of time around the Snowy Mountains.
    Best roads during summer

The Great Ocean Road is overated and over populated

Hiya Howto, i havent been south of sydney yet but i'm guessing Oct - Nov or March - May, less chance of rain and flooding but still warm, be sure to do a lap around the Blue Mts then head south along the Grand Pacific Drive, hugging the coast would be great but there's also plenty of inland roads worth the extra miles, the locals down that way will give ya some good advice i'm sure, but stay off the main highway, ya wont see much on the highway.

Hi & welcome, i've done that ride ( Sydney NSW to Melb VIC ) via the coast road ( best way to go if you have the time ).

THere was a recent post that Will & Santina where starting Eagle Tours or Bike Hire? All HD bikes. Will & Santina are from USA with a good knowledge of the weather & the trip you are planing. so i think that would be you best place to ask first. Nice people & very experienced riders & a great knowledge of HD's.

Lastly that is a very easy trip only just over 1,000k i can do it in a day easy. but take your time, enjoy.

Like Red said southern aussie in summer North in winter. Getting a bit of rain could happen , but heh , its a chance you take and nothing a a good jacket cannot fix , or do what i did last time i went on a big ride just wing it when i hit some thunderstorms next big town i bought some cheap rain gear from a fishing store , don't matter drying out in the motel is easy to do .

Its not a big ride so if you have more time , keep everyone posted and i'm sure you could hook up with locals off here who will show you the better roads ,

In fact if its summer i reckon it would be a good excuse to come over and do the alpine road and the mountains and a ride back to south oz. been promising my missis for years i'll take her on that trip .

I want to thank everyone for their response, wasn't sure if I would get any, but very delighted, we might just rent a bike and head out on our own, we will certainly let you know so maybe we could meet some of you or you could let us know of good riding areas.  One thing my wife wants is a couple days on a beach somewhere, and suggestions?  Thanks
