    Hi there

I was wondering from experience what most forum members use for lubricating the steering head bearings.

I used to use a Mobil lithium based grease HP Special which was coloured blue amd water resistant etc but Mobil service stations don't exist in city areas (I'm in Geelong) any longer and I called Repco and Bursons and they don't stock it.

    Popular alternative?

    Cheers :)

I have a tube of Caltex (I think it's labelled no. 2) red HD grease that may be heavy enough not to 'run' in high temp applications. I haven't tried it in the steering head as yet though. To the touch it's very tacky and might work, but I can't prove it.

I was told that any marine grade bearing grease is good enough, not had any problems with it.

I have used a good Moly Based Caltex grease. In the white tub with the red lid. :)

     Hi there

    Went the Nulon. Thanks.

HD must only pack the bearings with grease and little or no grease in the steering stem. I used over half the tube to hear a faint "squish" of grease coming out the stem..

    Cheers :)

    +1 ^

If the bearings need greasing, then it might be a good idea to inspect them at the same time. Pointless greasing a stuffed bearing.

the Belray Grease i used is real thick & sticky, supposed not to run. it sure seemed better than the Kendal i used last time , & the Kendal was good. i'm now going to remove swingarm and inspect the bearings re pack with this Belray Grease.
