Hi guys,
Been promising to post a few better pics of the bike; well I installed the S & S Tear Drop this morning and took her for a strap to make sure I hadn't fucked anything up.........fortunately she started, idled and went like she should!! I'm really happy with the way its progressing, may not be to everyone's liking but really starting to look exactly like I want!
Anyway here are some upated pics:
Hell of a lot of work in there. Looking the goods. Are you going to do the rear fender and oil tank? Just how do you find time to do all the work/get the work done and still ride it though? No, let me guess....You don't have kids!!
EDIT:
Just found your other post...Congrats and make all the mods you can now...
Great affect
Go to the Deutsch website to identify the connector and the associated insertion/removal tool.
First ensure it is a Deutsch connector - there may be other types under there too!
You don't need any other connector to mate the connectors together (plug-male, socket - female) - just a thick wall heat shrink to cover the connectors and a cover for the whole cable(s). I used to work with heaps of military type connectors and tools, so slowly slowly does it and a hairdryer to heat the shrink (high speed and farking hot setting). Don't solder the connections - the heatshrink will hold them in place and if you ever want to disconnect them its only a matter of slicing off the shrink and pull the connection apart again!
This is the type of tool and you can get it from RS Components Australia
This is a Deutsch #20 insertion/extraction tool - slip it over the wire from the back of the plug/socket - push it gently into the plug/socket until you feel a slight resistance and then holding wire and tool together - gently pull wire out of plug/socket - do not twist or pull excessively or you will fuck the wire and the tool (buy a few tools $4.50 a pop the ends are very thin and damage easily) you need a # 16 - I would check the Harley electrical plug specs in the rear of the manual to see what type of plugs/sockets are fitted (if you have one!)
Hope this helps and I hope you realise what you are getting yourself into!!!!! If you break a wire out of the connector while it is still in the plug or socket you are in deep shit The connectors cost only cents, the crimp tool costs $200+ bucks plus trying to get the connector out the plug!
Regards
Ned
Hey Waz!
No probs. Just remember - No solder joints (unless you break a wire)! The pins are crimped really strongly and soldering will only cause the joint to fail at the crimp point (the heat will cause corrosion and weaken the copper - thats why they crimp connectors) There are special little goodies out there that are called Heat Shrink Solder Butt Connectors (or Splices) - these are used with a heat tool (hair dryer) and contain the solder and heat shrink sleeve all in one unit - RS Components Australia should have them if you want a back up device in case of a wire failure - piss easy to use! There are also Heat Shrink Butt Connectors (or Splices) - just push the wires into each end - crimp - then apply heat to shrink. Use these if you break a wire out of the connector/plug - cut off the mating end wire - strip back each wire - push into the splice - crimp (or just heat) and heat! All done.
If you run into difficulties - PM me and I will try to give some long distance fixes!
