A bloke from Innisfail (1hour from Cairns) just bought a Big Bear Chopper. He had to take it to a custom bike shop in Cairns as he couldn't get it to go. They didn't tell him about the decompression buttons ontop of the heads. It has a 300 rear tyre and a 124 S&S motor but it's too hard to start again after you have been riding it, as the decom buttons are in the middle of the rocker box and its to hot to get your fingers in their, WTF. Not smart. Other than that the bike looks shit hot but you can only ride it in a straight line, no corners as it is toooooo low. This guy, so i have been told paid 95k for it. Some people have too much money.
I dont know how they are going to register it, glad it's not my problem. I wouldn't like to pay the defect fines everytime i went for a ride, as it sticks out like a cop at a nightclub. DLUX it looks a bit like that red one.
DLUX i love em too. It expresses an individuals ideas. I cant seem to understand why people are so negative towards them. Especially if theyve never ridden one. Sure they are big buck machines. But a person who owns a jap cruiser also thinks that harleys are big buck machines. Where does one draw the line? Due to the fact that choppers started life as oxy hacked up back yard junk doesnt mean thats what they are now. Rest assured that these bikes set up correctly with the proper steering geometry (rake AND trail) and correct driveline, will perform quite well on the road. Does a softail handle as good as a dyna? No. So why do we buy softails when they are more expensive? Comes back to what an individual prefers and can afford. Now having said all that i think il go and hack up my perfectly good softail.
I never hear about the power output of these particular bikes compared to ANY of the HD upgrade kits. WHY? Because you cant compare.
Oh good, looks like i have created a war on the forum. If you have a look at the bike it is very well put together but as all Harley riders, i would change a few things to make it mine. It looks fantastic and the enginering is out there. I have been told that even though it is no good to go up any of the local ranges and hills, it rides very well from Cairns to Innisfail, which is pretty straight and flat. It would be fantastic in some parts of this country to ride, like Townsville which is all flat and the roads north, south, and west are straight. I would like to own it if money was no object and give it a blast yee haaa.. The bloke who owns it works in the mines....
A mate of mine today just sent me this link on BBC as he is thinking of getting a kit in for 28k( no wiring, no paint, nothing assembled) I told him he was nuts but when he gets something in his head he just does it. I took him to look at SRT8 chrysler wagon 86k his attitude was fuckit its only money , 2mth later his in my driveway askin if i wanted to drive it. So i say in a few mnths he will have one. Oh and i tried to tell him it was a headache to get it reg in AUST. All i say is good luck to him and anyone else , But me personally id stick to aust builders
I would like to have a mate like that, hope that when he gets it going and all the hard work is done he brings it around for you to ride.
Big joe he wont listen, He sent me a list with what comes with it Oh well it will sit in the Garage like his other project (Valiant Charger) or something.
I would think that the Big Bear Chopper in question was closer to 65K than 95K but I am happy to be proved wrong.
I really enjoy reading this forum but it never ceases to amaze me how much negative stuff is posted. If you don't like "choppers" or custom bikes then thats fine but I don't understand the need to insult the guys who do like them. Some of us want to be different. We don't all want to ride black Fatboys or Deuces ! Life would be very boring if we all had the same taste.
It's classic "tall-poppy syndrome". Just because a bloke spends a heap of cash on a bike, why does that make him a poser? Because he makes more money than you do??? Or just because you don't like non-Harleys? Or because he didn't come through the "ranks" of fixing stuff himself?? Or because he didn't own 7 Jap bikes before his first Harley??What a load of crap!
If you were making $300 an hour would you fix your bike yourself or pay someone $100 an hour to do it properly for you? If you don't fix and sevice your own Harley does that make you a wanker??
Some guys here must just type stuff before they think. If a bloke rides a bike, any brand, he can't be all bad. If he rides a Harley it's a bonus. If he's a nice bloke then what's to complain about???? If he's a prick, does it make a difference what bike he rides???
Open your mind for just a minute and
PULL YER HEAD IN!!!
