You are supposed to sit "IN" a chair, not on it.................. that's why a lot of bike seats are crap!!

 

I have mini apes on my Springer and I tend to sit back in the saddle. However, you could keep ya 'beach type bars' and sit back by changing ya risers. That's cheaper than changing bars for sure unless you wanna entirely change the style from 'beach' to 'apes'.

 

Go the mini apes Mon, you'll find it much more comfy and less muscle aches, especially on long rides..... gets ya sitting up with straighter back which takes the weight off ya back, shoulders and arms, slow speed turning is really the only thing ya will have to get used to ... of course thats only my opinion, i failed science lol.
