G'day. I've been lurking here for a year or so, so I thought it's about time I actually signed up.

My name is Ken and I was the last Authorised HD Dealer in Ballarat. That was 22 years ago.

Personally I am an 'Old Stuff' bloke, preferring to own and ride good old twins. I have had a 1928 J model Chopper, 2 1938 WL45's, a 1948 UL, and a '48 Pan. (Strangely, they have all ended in 8's! - 1928, 1938 and 1948)

I have almost talked myself into stepping into the 21st Century though, and typically I am considering a Softail Deluxe, which is just a modern version of the good old stuff anyway

Looking forward to participating in here where I can

    Cheers

    Ken

    Thanks guys.

Yeah Etch, the pics are before and after of the work I did on the UL.
It came to me with a WideGlide front end and a BSA plunger rear suspension badly welded onto it.
I re-welded it properly coz it seemed to suit the bike.

To give it back its history I painted it in its original CHiPs Black & White scheme.
But then I moved it further from its heritage by adding apes and exposed primary belt drive

It has Jockey Shift and suicide clutch. Pipes are short shotguns.
It's most remarkable feature is the lack of brakes
There are no brake shoes in the drums, but it's amazing how quick you can pull up with just BrakeHorsepower from the engine!
The ONLY thing on the handlebars is the throttle!
That's what you call keeping things basic.

OK, I found this one in one of my Photo Albums. Had to scan it so it looks crappy quality.

    I'll keep searching for more.

This one is my old 1928 'J' model 1000cc Harley with an extended Yamaha XS 650 front end.

It handled like crap, was waaayyy too loud  but went like a rocket and was a hell of a lot of fun to ride!

As long as I remembered to oil the tappets every time I rode it

I took it off the road to restore it to something similar to original. It was stolen from the workshop I was restoring it in

    Cheers

    Ken

    Welcome Ken.
Hell, I cant even remember a Harley dealer in Ballarat !
Enjoy the Forum, and I might see you out and about one day.

I've also worked for GTV and Crawfords.
Shame all the old Crawfords buildings and Sound Stages have been knocked down and the land sold.
I was at GTV when it was being sold, and have done some work at the new Office in the City.
Compared to the old Rabbit Warren, it has ZERO character
