Swap the image of the anti fatboy to a postie bike or trailbike or scooter or gsx250 etc and it might relay a more positive media image.
The law when passed will not discriminate between any of the previously mentioned.
    Pushbike to Boss-hoss.

Well done to the spin doc's though.

Cops would be pulling over heaps of bikes, if the alcohol content is zero.

Wouldn't want to ride in that state.

They have been trying to push this through for about 2-3 years in Queensland. They has a questioaire going around and word it so that you would have to agree with Question like, would you agree that it would be easier to see a motorcyclist if the had a fluro jacket on. What they forgot is We were awake to them and ticked the boxes as NO...

Some of the rules they want to bring in are crazy!!!!!!

Really its just another push to get motorcycles off the road, also with all the regulations which they want to introduce do they think it will stop the fatalities regarding motorcycles on the road.

But there are too many other factors which come into the equation, how many motorcycles have killed people in cars, riders just going to fast riding beyond there ability, cars hitting you because they are too stupid to scan their mirrors to see if anyone else is on the road because they think they are the only person on the road, then when they hit you its a big im sorry didn't see you!!!!

HI VIS vest doesn't make you invinsible, not keen on that idea and it should be a personal choice if you want to wear a HI VIS vest.

Also making motoryclist attend extra rider training is a good thing, but all training in the world doesn't make you safer on the road with all the other elements which motorcyclists have to contend with every time your out riding on the road. You cannot train the stupidity out of a person.

Front number plate, they ruled out front number plates on motorcycles years ago because they were dangerous to pedestrians, are there no pedestrians on the roads today! Today there is a thing call speed cameras which generate revenue for the goverment which it the deciding factor these days regarding front number plates on motorcycles. Easy fix turn your around the Speed Cameras ( sorry Safety Cameras) so they pickup the rear plate problem solved. Goverment is making a shit load of money out of these cameras so they have the money to change the cameras.

Replacing helmets after 4 years, that is fine by me, after wearing a helmet for 4 years the foam inside the helmet has compressed considerabley to a point where the helmet has become loose making it unsafe so it should be replaced. Plus the inside of the helmet stinks way too much after 4 years....... Is you helmet legal, well I am so confused with all the laws which are in place making hard to determin whether or not a helmet is legal, yes there is an Australian Standard but the laws of physics are the same where every you are in the world so what makes an American helmet difterent to the helmets whe have in Australia.

Zero Alcohol for motorycles, most will not like it but I think there should be Zero Alcohol for motorcycles also cars, if your at work your not allowed to drive machinery so make it mandatory for drivers and riders on the road. Also drink driving laws in this country are way too soft there is no need to drink when your riding or driving.

If there was a 4 year expiry on helmets stockists would have to ensure that all stock was fresh. Let the authorities inspect the available stock and ascertain the possiblities of supply. If helmets were to only have a life of 4yrs the more expensive more effective helmets would never get sold. It would be all $60.00 helmets .

Most helmets would be sitting in transit in warehouses or on the shelf for some time.
Paying a lease on a helmet would be closer to the point than owning it if they got this idea past the gate.

Not real attractive for the importer or owner of the shop selling them.
$800 for a top of the line lid That's simple maths.
$200/year to use a helmet.. SURE THING..!!!!!!
Do these idiots get paid to piss logic around like that???

I try and put all this out on other non bike related forums in order to educate and it just turns into a bikie bashing session ,there is a lot of hate toward "the bikie image" out there .
a lot of non riders come across as loathing just about anyone on a Harley .
As far as a lot of non bikies are concerned ,Bikers are low life criminal thugs who go around intimidating people ,sell drugs and guns and run strip clubs and brothels .

its an image that will be hard to shake ,especially with all the bad media .

there definitely seems to be an agenda to put a big dent in bikie armor and from what I have seen on the net its working .

media doesnt need to push this agenda .. neither does the govt .... there are more than enough tools on two wheels killing themselves, or creating bad blood with other road users.

Googled m/cycle helmet life expectancy,  its from a US motor cycle magazine---

    http://www.cskk.ezoshosting.com/cs/moto/helmets/what-to-know.html

    Replacing your helmet

Plan to replace your helmet if it has been involved in an accident. Some helmet manufacturers will inspect and, when possible, repair a damaged helmet. If your helmet has been dropped and you think it might be damaged, you may want to take advantage of this service.

Most helmet manufacturers recommend that, under normal use, you should replace your helmet every two to four years. If you notice any signs of damage before then, replace it sooner. As mentioned above, fiberglass helmets may crack or break if dropped. And, if you see any light brown spots near the rivets of a polycarbonate helmet, it is probably damaged and should be replaced.

Why replace a helmet every few years if it doesn't appear damaged? Its protective qualities may deteriorate over time. The interior padding compresses, offering less protection. The chin strap may fray or loosen at its attaching points. And the shell may be chipped or banged. Probably the best reason, however, is the constant improvements in design and protective qualities of helmets. Chances are the helmet you buy in a couple of years will be better than the one you have now - even if the cost is about the same.

Since 1974, all helmet manufacturers must stamp the month and date of production on the helmet's chin strap. If you can't remember when you bought your present helmet, just check the strap. If there's no date at all, you definitely should replace your helmet now.

as for the Council focusing on 0% blood alcohol , they arent gunna get much sympathy from many quarters with this " woe is me" campaign ,

but they will sure get  heaps of buy-in if they start a fresh campiagn for all road users to be zero ....

This is NOT just a Queensland issue. Be assured if these Laws are passed in the Sunshine State then the other State Law Makers will use our Laws as a precedent.

But if the Law looks like passing in Qld I predict NSW will quickly shunt it through their Parliament to beat us.

Thinks this is a southern beat up myself.

This is turning into a sad - the grass is always greener thread.

Reckons everywhere has it's good points and bad points.

We moved up to Brisbane from Sydney in the late 90s.

It has grown and grown and grown.

     - with growth comes the pains of infastructure upgrades which seem never ending, and the loss of the laid back charm that made it worth while coming to in the first place.

But - hey - it's a free country, and there is a shit load of space if you wanna go and find it.

I'm just imagining walking into a bike shop to look for helmets and there they are, all in a line with a guy polishing each one and giving it a little kiss, seeing me and (in Con-the-fruiterer-voice), "you afterer a freshest helmet?  We has the freshest!  Straight from the tree!!"

I see their point on helmets, makes logical sense for safety reasons but the rest is pure shit.   If the fuckers cant hear my exhaust or see me waving around in my lane being visible, a bright yellow shirt aint gonna do shit.  It might make it easier to notice me stuck under their front guard when the get home but it's not gonna help them notice any better their car bumping as they drive over me.

0% BAC?   I'll do it when cars are forced to take mandatory bike license courses to wake the fuckers up about how to look around and see what the fuck is happening on the roads.  When I was riding my pissy little scooter around (coming from being only a car driver for years before that), I woke the fuck up and started looking around a hell of alot more.  Whenever I get into a car now I think like a biker and do the old "scanning, look for a way out, be visible" etc.   THEY FUCKING ALL SHOULD TAKE A BIKE RIDER COURSE TO TEACH THEM THAT!!!

Meh, Qld won't let it happen I reckon.  Give a fuck about the pollies wanting it or Joe Public demanding it,  we couldnt get daylight savings through for reasons such as "it would fade the curtains" so how the fuck are they gonna get 0% BAC for all bike riders, wearing a fluro clown suit and getting the freshest helmet around....   It's a pipe dream but a scary thought it that some idiot somewhere is thinking of putting that in place in a more politically correct state, like Vic or NSW.    Man, we dont even "keep left unless overtaking" unless the fucker in the right lane is going less than 6k's over the limit, damn Sunday drivers....

    Cheers,

    Shred.

funny some of the comments in here, if you think it wont happen in Qld or anywhere else, think again, this proposal has the blessing of the govt, the only reason why its not in now is that a few good peoplehave come up with a few good arguments. the govt and the police in 3 states favour 0 alc for bikes, its possible itwill go through parliament in Qld before the end of 2012. the issue with the helmets is because the states cant agree on a standard for helmets in Australia, and some states have a helmet expiry period, whch the cops are now booking people for. the standards issue is ongoing, also includes clothing and safety gear for bikes. the govt cant decide on a standard, either a european standard, an american standard or making a new australian standard. anyway it goes, you WILL be wearing hi vis, probably within a year or 2.
