Important Rocker Oil drain issue

Have done an oil change only to find the source of the leak was the drain line.

IMHO the oil drain line is made from the wrong material and it's due for failure. My rocker was one of the early lot and it's a matter of time before the oil line on others fails.

I found this while doing an oil change. I had been chasing a leak, thinking it was a failed O ring on the drain bung. When I put the gearbox filler bung in I found oil leaking from the drain line. PM me for the fix.

The pics are of the rubber hose that runs from the back of the engine oil tank, over the swingarm and down to the oil drain bung. This line has perished and is dry and brittle. If it got knocked while riding all of your engine oil will leak onto the back wheel.

It's on the bottom right hand side at the back of the engine oil tank.

Rubber hose has perished badly when you condsider that the Rockers aren't that old. Harley may have purchase cheap inferior quality hose.

    It's all top secret.

I was more curious if any one else had the issue.

I got some EFI fuel hose in 3/8" and 1/2" and cut to length. Joined over the swing arm with a 1/2" barbed side entry female and screwed a 3/8" barbed male thread into this.

I hadn't put the fix up yet cause I just finished doing it. I will put some pics of the finished job when I get a chance.

Not 100% happy with it yet but so far it's working.

I had to take the back guard off so I could get my hand in, just undo the 4 botls and roll it back over the tyre. I had heaps of room and didn't have to unplug any wiring.

The kink in the hose wasn't there when I got back from the test ride, might need to adjust the length.

The plastic cover nearly makes it so you can't see the brass fitting.

Some nicer looking clamps and the right curve in the visible hose would finish it off nice, but for now it's ridable again.

well ur the guinea pig in this one but, i guarantee ur doin us all a hell of a favour. thanks. glad to see it worked ok. i checked out mine today, and well the hose seems ok for now. but in the chance it is goin to fail im takin proactive measures. what type of hose did u use? there just ordinary hose clamps yes?

I started with 3/8" $40/m EFI, Fuel, diesel gold plated shit and then found out I needed the 1/2" so just got fuel hose. Any decent car part outlet, Repco or hydrolic hose place will have what you need. I used worm drive hose clamps but want to change over to the nut and bolt type cause they look more shiny. I need to adjust length of the line from oil tank to elbow to take the kink out of it but I am sure hot oil will flow when doing an oil change and it would look better.

I have some 3/8" stainless tube that was bent to follow the shape of the old hose but I had too much trouble getting the 3/8" hose over it. This is the better way cause there is no way tube is going to leak. If I can get it to work better I will throw up pics and more info on lenght.

I have an easy fix that works but I am sure there are many other ways. Main thing is to check that hose before it leaks and when you do your next oil change replace the hose. Going to check on the size of the FXSTC because it might fit and be an off the shelf fix, but I am guessing it has the same size at both ends, which is why were have this problem in the first place.
