A little news item from our local rag today, police are targeting speeding motorcyclists near Dwellingup (WA) one guy was booked for doing 133 in a 90 zone, fined $1000 and 7 demerit points. The other rider was detected doing 148 in a 90 zone and had his bike confiscated for 7 days and is summond to appear in court. The cops are responding to local resident complaints about speeding bikers.
Methinks that speeding near major towns etc is not too smart and can be somewhat expensive.
Bt
We sit on a good speed when we go out for a ride(110-130) and it scares the shit out of you when the jappa go past you at 200-220, they are the ones that get the cops out on the road picking on all bike riders...assholes
Hey Tapey how am I to read what ya gotta say man, with an avatar like that............
The bikes in question, one was a Triumph and the other not specified but more than likely a japper, that road is a good fast not too busy country road with just a few farm houses, most of the Perth bike freternity use it to get to Dwellingup/Quindanning etc. Iv'e had a few close encounters with the cops there as well. At 90kph ya can not only smell the roses ya can pick em.
Speed alone doesn't kill, making bad decisions about where to speed can, combined with bad road conditions, not understanding the limits of your own ability, not understanding the limits of your bikes ability (or not having a clue and not trying to learn) etc etc. I read an article in a magazine years ago when a retired motorcycle cop admitted that even though lots of accidents involved speed on motorcycles it was very rare that speed alone was the cause of an accident. He also admitted that in his experience driver/rider training would far better serve the safety of the general public than imposing fines on everyone for everything. He also went on to say that statistically the number 1 cause of bike accidents was bad road conditions followed by poor rider control. Speed was about 5th on the list of related causes. So next time you are handed a fine on a back road in sugar cane country don't forget to say thank you to Mr plod because he is only thinking of your safety. YEAH RIGHT.
here is the actual article..............
I dont know the area so it's hard to know whether they were riding dangerously, did the police have info on where to wait ? Did they accelerate to these speeds for a fleeting second and get done ? We all know the newspapers never lie ? It reminds of an article I saw in a local paper about 5 years ago where two bike riders were killed. In the article it said the bikes were speeding and lost control and crashed into a ute comming out of a farm house, but the pictures in the paper didn't show any front end damage to the bikes ? I later learnt that an old guy in his 80's was leaving his property and did not see the two bikes comming, so to avoid the car they went off the road and crashed into trees and both died. I live about 40 km from this property and you can see either way in a straight line for at least 3 or 4 km's. I'm not saying riders are never to blame (as a matter of fact I think riders in general make too many excuses for putting themselves in dangerous positions and then try to blame others) but things are not always as they seem. It's stories like the one above that allow the police to go on their merry way fining everything that moves. Lets face it, if they cared about saving lives and believed it was all to do with speed, they would enforce a law that restricted vehicles to 100km an hour (or whatever) and there would be no more problem would there ?? But then what about the revenue ??
