Welcome Fattybob hope you enjoy the forums and on the bike i rekon it would be a great first Harley Depends how big you are some of the ridding postions on a sporty can be a bit cramped if you are a big bloke.

Fatty bob, just read my signature for my opinion on the Iron. :)

Daimoh on this forum has one for sale with about 8,000 on the clock and a lot of extras including pipes, breather, tuner, shocks etc. Goes like the clappers.

Welcome and good choice for starters, sportsters are a great ride. Agree about considering the 1200 over the 883 though.

I bought the missus an 883 iron that she never rides

now 14.250 ride away .1200 sporties are about 3 grand dearer

i bought a sreamin eagle 1200 stage one kit for $1650 and put it in with the help of a mate

ive kept the 883 gearing so it gets off the line better than a stock 1200

fairly simple kit to install  its just a bolt on

Welcome Fattybob, if yr on a budget mate then the Iron is a good starting point. You can upgrade from there as $$$ permit. Just make sure you do the stage 1 asap to open it up. A 1200/1250 conversion can then be done further down the track. For me I had the $$$ to get a 1200 but preferred the look of the Iron, found a 2nd hand 2010 for a good price & spent the spare $$$ on upgrades. Quick enough for now (I'm 90kg / 5'11") & the 1200/1250 won't be too far away.
