I thinking of ordering one of these in the next week or so, I've done a search with a couple of articles from a couple of years ago coming up, has anyone any feedback good or bad that has one fitted, or knows first hand what they are like.
So far I have read that they tend to use a bit more fuel, (not really an issue and I would have thought obvious), that they tend to have crank and other motor issues, (I have read this a few times about older/differnt brands of blowers).
The HP/TQ gains are pretty good, for the money it looks like you could get the same sort of figures with some good head work, cams etc. but they are a bit different.
if you want to lower compression extra head gasket, but would depend on how many pounds of pressure they run?
evo's are good but in past five years i've seen 5 evo's with broken crank pins, the twin cam crank pin much stronger. the crank can slip out of coupoling. but impossible to true them up would take a lot of force. strill welding pin is a good idesa but not worth the trouble wait till you twist it. i went 80,000k riding & drag racing & reving motor to 7,200 rpm & did that for about 7 years them my crank slippe in the pin. picked up near new stock crank had a mate that races nitro harleys weld it as he welds his old nitro harley pins up after rebuilds so experienced. now he uses one peice cranks car type rods. i think stock twin cam rods are good.
good luck
iv'e seen a few broken belt's on these but they have been used hard , that hard that this 1 bent the g/box main shaft , that bike used up 3 belt's they run in pri oil + no adjustment on the belt , nothing is for free
Good point there dr as the pressure builds up the belt that drives them gets more load to turn.
i would expect the pro charger that bolts onto the 120R to be a much bigger unit than one for a 88'?
A mate fitted one on his new 07 softail and that's had no problems to date with three owners. The crankshafts are a crap shoot with some good some bad so time will tell. Krash one size fits all cube motors but there a few sizes in pulleys for boost applications. The 07 softail's best HP was 138 with 12 lb boost on a stock motor with S&S slip on mufflers and larger injectors and PC3 tuned. The bike was ran with a 8 lb pulley on the street because it was bone stock and that's all the cast pistons will tolerate. The 15 lb boost pulley would need a blue printed low comp motor with forged slugs etc. This bike had hours and hours on a dyno perfecting the tune.
This info is from memory 5 years ago so I'm not 100% sure with those pulley sizes.
the 1 i saw had chewed a couple of belts they don't look strong or wide enough + belt's should not run in oil + no auto belt adjuster for the heat expansion rate of all that alloy, no belt adjuster @ all , i have never seen a real good force induction kit for a harley, even natli turbo's my friend sold them the set-up back in the mid 80,s then they changed it 2 suit them self & made a few design faults in the system , i have taken 4 turbo set's off EVBT over the yrs in the 90's & give the fellow a big bore kit instead that still run's to-day , we use too drag against there turbo bike on & a EVBT-80 c.i. stock rear tyre no sissy bars , only 6th's sec slower with a 125klg rider on a stock old 4spd shovel frame any xtra power gain's is alway's around it just depends if you want the extra xpence + extra weight & some are just plain ulgy
i think if i was doing a pro charger i'd use it on a TC88 as easier to get good results from a small size motor if your only got one size blower. as the big displacement needs a lot more air than a small displacement. so i think the 120R would need a larger blower to be able to pump enough air in, otherwise they would have the TQ but no HP. but thats very true about not good to run a belt in oil. seen some good strong runing NOS bikes. had a guy with a FXR 80" EVO thats been runing NOS system for some time, he used to come to the track and last time he did some really fast trap speeds Carb motor too.
last - nite had a test ride around the area on that Rocket 3 i mension earlier with the spintex supercharger on her , 1st time i ever rode a late Rocket 3 , i use too have a 1969 bsa rocket /trident back when , but stuff me it spun in 2nd about 2/3 throttle & very strong , dyno read out 10 psi , 265hp @ 210 ft lb torque, i think it's the biggest bike iv'e ever ridden as i'am only 62 klgs , i will be racing this bike 240klgs all-up @ the drags on the 18 march , to-day my neck & sholders are sore just from about 10 klm's ride, when you back - off she blows air out of the wastegate loud, for - get about your licence
Hey guys
Thanks for all the replys and info.
I ordered one with 10lb boost last night, it should be here in about 3 weeks.
my racing mechanic mate has fitted 2 procharger kit's 1 was a stock T.C.88c.i. stock everything except mufflers 118 hp, the other was a slightly moded later 96 c.i. 149 hp, he twisted the spline on the g/box mainshaft were the clutch sit's on but a hard rider he is no longer with us anymore
when i past the finish line @ the drags on the 120R i'am already nearly 1/2 way thru 6th gear @ 132 mph , on a dyna wideglide ?
Macka get your motor tuned right first m8!
if you have not got the tune right now this will not be the solution. you get the motor tunned and runing to its max then see if you want more.
just what i think, but after seeing how the Frazers bike runs at Sydney drags i think your 120R will be enough for a strong runing street bike.
hi john, when i run-in & tune the new 120 R in about 4 weeks time i will give you a ride on her even if it's just in the pit's @ the raceway or i could meet you some were before she goes too the race track , , i will be modifing the heads port & polishing over the top of the already CNC factory ported heads , welding the drive side crank pin , upping the comp from 10.5 to 1 too ?, + modification's too the inlet manifold & heavey breather, throttle body 58 m.m. + will be running stock modified exh system just too show that the stock headers will work up too a certian level ,
1 will be aiming for about 135 hp @least if not 139h.p. any way i will forsure give you a ride because you are a good bloke , & i recon your earned it , so when the bike is ready & still fresh even before her 1st outing @ the track you can have a ride , we can swap bike's on a sunday ride for 20 mins up the old heathcote rd once or twice ,
I'm sure it does go well BC, i've seen how changing pullys changes HP & TQ & when it comes in. a m8 has an engine dyno but only puts car motors on it.
my friend just said the bike he worked on with pro charger felt heavy to one side. some people would not care he just likes to ride for enjoyment. likes bike well balanced. everyone to what they personaly like.
