Hi guys,

New member here,, first post. I own a 2011 fatbob & bought a HD speedo/tach  PN 70900071.

 I followed all the instructions on fitting it , took the bike for a 65km ride but the thing won't work. All the lights & LED parts work but shows up VIN ERR . Can anyone help? Did I miss something?  What am I doing wrong?

 Yea, done the transfer cable under the seat. Will give it another go next w/end & see if it works this time.

I put the original speedo back in as it's too easy to be above the speed limits

Not trying to be a smart arse but I take it you mean under the side cover?

It should only take a few seconds to do & have a message confirming that it's done. Can't think of what the message is.

 

I found my plug under the seat (same as your pic) & come to think of it i didnt see a message.

Got it worked out,, thanks guys. Yes, there is a 2nd plug under the seat that I got mixed up with. The video shows how easy it is (with the right plug)

Has anyone had any problems with these tacho/speedos? I had one installed about 6 months ago and a couple of weeks ago, things started to go wrong. The security light is staying on, sometimes the gear indicator disapears and now the left hand indicator stays on permanently which in turn partly melted the smoked lens. The dealer that installed it says that it may be a faulty sender in the unit. Until it is fixed I can't really ride the bike, because if I take the accessory fuse out I don't have a tail light. It's about a 1 hour ride to the dealers and I am a bit reluctant to take the risk.

Does anyone know if a fatbob instrument panel will fit a wide glide tank (2011) ?, I know they are different sized tanks.

I purchased the same speedo/tacho on the 1st March 2012 from Peter Stevens Motorcycles after they told me it would fit my bike, it doesn't as the wide glide has a 4 inch speedo.. 

Have been waiting 2 months for them to decide what they are going to do, refund/credit, return the speedo to me, do nothing and hope I forget about it ???

They have the speedo and I have nothing other than a reduced bank balance, if the a fatbob instrument panel fits my tank I'll endeavour to get it back and see if I can source one from somewhere as I'd like a tacho.

I think you need to push a bit harder for a refund or replaecment for the correct speedo.

I just fitted a Tacho/speedo to my '12 superglide custom and it's working great.
Just be aware that the '12 dynas and the '11 softails on are different to the earlier ones.
No need to calibrate anymore and the instructions say you have till the 50klm mark to remove the instument before the gauge takes on your previous milage permently and can not be used on another bike as "error" will be displayed in the panel.
Bought mine from the usa while I was there .

I added the same speedo / taco a few weeks ago the issue I have is the digital fuel guage seems to be about a quarter of a tank out compared to the analogue guage on the tank? Anyone else find this and which one is the go? I go with the lowest at the moment haha but want to know if anyone else found this?

From memory mine was like that to start with but came good. Think after I ran a full tank full through it.
