Hi guys,

Been hunting round the web looking at cheaper alternatives to installing a bottom mount headlight on my Iron. It appears after a lot of reading; that the gusseting in the Sportster Triple Tree will allow you to drill a 3/8 hole through it to install a headlight.  Happy with the information, happy that its not going to cause any integrity issues..............just not to keen on doing it myself.

The stuff that I've read indicates that most people are doing it simply by removing the guard and front wheel, however IMO it would be much more accurate to pull the triple tree out and and use a drill press rather than the old black n decker.

Have anyone had a go at this, alternatively can you recommend anyone in Sydney that would be suitable to do this work? I've been thinking a fitter and turner would be prime, but not really that experienced in this area so looking for some feeback.

Waz mate if you where closer i would offer to help but there is a problem.

Underneath the triple tree there is a gusset in side profile it is concave ie upside down U mate to connect via a nut and bolt you will need a Tee nut shaped bolt or tee shaped nut to correct it.

Red is correct there is the 33 percent rule ie drill 2.5 mm then follow through with 3/8 / 10mm but i would tap it mate 3/8 unc

you can tap it but you need a tapping block to stop it wandering around to much and it can be done just take your time measure twice and stop if it things are out of square wandering around etc

mmmm if ya go ahead with the powdercoating send it up ill drill and machine a small ledge so ya bolt or socket head capscrew will sit flush on the bottm

as i said up to you man no charge to drill the trees mmmm are they black lol could do them if ya want too seein as i got a few kilo satin and matt black here ..give me anuther call morrow if ya want will have chat about some different setups or ill call you save ya some buks i love voda fucin 45 buks dial anything anywhere for as long as i want an texts the same talk to angus over wa for hours about bikes lol
