hi all sorry for the noob questions here but thats cause i am a noob to these electronic iron beasts. but can someone tell me what purpose this flapper valve serves other than making the bike sound like its running on one cylinder at low speed and idle?

i recently had a thundermax auto tune and a stage one air cleaner installed on the bike, it had slash cut mufflers on it when i bought the bike.

i took the bike for a good ride today . the bike goes like stink when you throttle it,  but in trafic riding at 60 kmh and at idle the thing feels guttles and sounds like a peice of shit, and i dont recall the bike being like this prior the work carried out.

can this valve be programed to stay open with this tuner or not as i was under the impression it could and they were going to do this when in the shop.

    cheers

    Will

the valve spose to stay shut so the exhaust builds up heat in the engine so it gets to operating temp quiker bit like the old hj /hz ect if you were in canada ridin in winter would be usefull other than restricting the flow its just dead weight like my ex wife

The flapper valve can be over-ridden by any dealer.  You don't need to add a tuner to do so.

Mine was diabled in the open position when I collected the bike new.  I have since bought US down pipes (US e-Bay dealer take off items) and got rid of the valve completely.

Hey Will, did you notice a difference in performance after changing the flap setting?

no ando the pipes even with the valve open meet the decible limits from wat ive seen an heard ect at transport dept seein as all the bikes now are injected they need to get to operating temp quicker than the ol carb ones so the comps can set all the bullshit up so they run that why o2 sensors only start to work at a certain heat range

oops forgot to mention if it was a niose thing the valve would have to stay shut at all stages hey
the flapper restrics flow so the temp rises quiker the held bak gas can still escape but slowly threw the balance pipe then out the other muffler
common sense tells ya that if its noise issue the flap would be locked shut all time
db meters test sound at 45degree angle from outlet of muufler and at i think 5ft distance then rev to 3 to 4k an held there by the time motor warms ect the valve would be open at those revs anyhow
itys all to do with heat an the comps on the things now
