SWINGARM PIVOT SHAFTT

I am having trouble getting the bolts out of the ends of the swingarm pivot shaft on my old 1988 Electra Glide.

I'm doing a 2002 swingarm upgrade with CCE bushes.

Most parts drawing etc and youtube vids show nuts on the end but these are bolts.

They just keep turning but not coming out.

They were locked pretty tight when I started to loosen them which you'd expect but they have only come a little easier and not coming out as you'd expect.

I put a long socket on the right side to see if the shaft was turning when I tried undoing the left side but it isn't.

Both sides just keep turning but won't come off... I'm stumped.

The clevblocks are loose and can be moved and it looks like the bolt has undone about 10mm on each side but no further.

    What the F^&%.......

    Any ideas...?

    Sounds like a nightmare.
So there's no nut just two bolts from either side. I'm thinking you may have undone the axel when it was tight. I would spot weld a nut to one of the axels and get a slide hammer on to it to see if one side pulls. If all else fails try and get a 4 inch angle grinder on to it and cut the fucker in half.

I can't edit my last post because I'm the iPhone. Second thoughts are maybe drill one off the heads of the bolts and knock it through. It would be high tensile steel and another bitch of of a job requiring 1/2 doz drill bits. Remember to have a few beer breaks for sanity wit this job. When it's time to replace the axel check the motor cycle wrecking yards for a suitable wheel axel from a japper because there good steel and it can be cut down to suit with both ends being tapped for nuts.

Cheers for the ideas. Just confirming this is the Swingarm Pivot shaft and not an axle. This would normally be a nut, but both side have these bolts. I was hoping to reuse the pivot shaft but it's looking like I might be cutting the swingarm up and the shaft next to the gearbox unless someone else has any ideas.... BUGGER

Red... I think you really are a Forum Legend mate.

At least I know whats in the swingarm now...

Still not 100% clear how to get one side out first but will try multigrips or small slide hammer.

    Cheers man... you're a star.....

    Will do...

Sprayed the bolts/swingarm with Innox last night.

This morning I put the socket with an extention on the left side bolt as it was the loosest with some angle tention on it to grab the head of the bolt, turned it anticlockwise a couple of times on the ratchet and out she came..... yeah!!!!!

Tapped the other one through with a socket extention.

If Red hadn't have taken the time to respond, the swingarm would have been in six peices by now...

    I love this forum....

    Hope this help someone else....

Belt looks better in the flesh that the pic so should be OK.

I was thinking of fitting a newer thinner belt and pulleys to give me a bit more room for a bigger tyre (170-180) but might wait until the new "Jim's" Evo turns up....
