First Service

G'day all, I booked the bike in today for it's 1600km service.  After initially picking my jaw up off the ground at the quoted $280 service fee for realistically doin bugger all (it is a first service, come on!!) I reluctantly booked it in for next week.  I don't really have a choice in the matter, there is only one HD dealer in Darwin.

After talking shop with the techo's, I walked up stairs to visit Dave in Parts, and to order some new chrome Short Shots to replace stock silencers.  Another $750 to supply and fit, just to please the warranty nazi's.

This short but expensive visit got me think'n that gone are the days when you and a mate could work in the shed on a Friday night listening to the radio, adjust the timing, chain and fit what ever parts your wallet or wife allowed at the time, not to mention the cost of your prefered slab of beer, and have ya bike ready for a week end run.  What is the world coming to.  Next thing you'll hear is that HD is buying out MV Augusta.  Oh wait that happened already .....

    Same here Ferret,
when they told me how much, i asked them if they were going to dyno the bike.
i probably sounded dumb, but probably even servicing the car doesn't cost that much.
But then again the last time i had 1st service on a car was 10 years ago.
    nothin' cheap nowadays ay!!
They're right though, owning a harley makes your wallet thin.
But it's a lot of Fun riding it!!! Ride On Bro.

what pisses me off even more is the rego costs....
In the NT it costs more to register a 07 sporty than a 77 torana V8 coupe.
How does that make sense ?

Cheers for the info Skull, it makes my options greater in future.

I've already had to go to the ACCC ref the sale of the bike.  I had forward controls fitted on purchase.  A couple of weeks after riding away from the shop I got a phone call from the salesman who ever so kindly informed me that I still owed $680 for the cost of the FC.  After a quick check of all the documentation from the purchase, to my amazment it clearly stating that the FC were part of the total purchase price.  Needless to say I havn't paid anything as it is still my belief I had done so when I brought the thing.

When dealing with the ACCC they informed me not to hand over any cash due to the fact that the sale of the bike was complete and if any attempt from the dealer, by way of correspondence, was sent to be with a debt notice then they would pursue the matter for me.

Been back to the shop on a few occassions since this issue rose its head and have not been confonted about it to date.
