Hi all, I'm a newbie here! And I'm looking at buying a 1982 sturgis from a family friend. All original as far as I know. BUT it's sort of in bits! Was run ing before it was pulled apart and it's not in a million bits. Just some parts are off it and they are in a box. It's still a rolling frame with the motor in, just guards and bits are off.  What I'm hoping you guys can help me with is a price. She wants $5000-6000. From what I have read and what they sell for, that price is a bit much. Hope you can help!!!

Good bike if you can do the spanner work on it and worthwhile after it's done.
I may be able to hook you up to a bloke that has some missing bits .
Go 5k and get to it.
    Enjoy.

PS why people pull things apart when they have no inclination on putting it back together just shits me.
IMO you have to fix what another person has frigged and they want top dollar??

Thanks hog-jockey! Yeah I'm pretty handy with the tools so restoring it won't be a problem, always wanted a Harley just don't know what they are worth! 5k a good price or is that still too much?? Are they a rare bike or collector??

A Sturgis for 5-6k grab it restore it ride it you`ll be happy, shovels get a bad name from the mechanically challenged  among us, don`t be one of them, maintain it properly and it will go for ever.

That's not really a new to HD type of project.
Unless you have wanted one since before puberty or you could do it up in your sleep and you already had bits in the shed then I for one would walk past it for a resto.
It is near a basket case and would cost you more than it is worth.

I personally would Bobber it .
Wide triple trees, flat bars, solo seat, chunky tyre style.

All the bits that are not on the bike are in boxes:) from what I have been told it was running before it got pulled apart! As the bike stands, is it worth 5k?? I am quite handy with the tools so restoring it won't be an issue:)

If it is value for money that you are most concerned about then IMO NO.
A buddy just bought a showroom 86 softtail for 10,8oo.It is soweet!!!!
If you can get that in the same ball park for another 6k I would be very surprized.

Mate, if you are handy with the tools and want a good project to play with and dont mind spending a few bucks to get it there, then go for it.
