    Howdy all,

I know that some of you have done upgrades from 96 to 106 i am planning the same using S&S kit . I am also planning on using 89cc S&S heads and Andrews 54H cams my question is do i also have to purchase S&S rocker boxs to suit the 89cc heads ?

I am told that OEM boxs will fit on S&S 79cc heads but that would give me 10.6 (approx ;) compression where as 89cc will give 9.7 (static)

Do i need to go to larger throttle body ?

    What about injector size ?

Any adice would be appreciated as it saves dollars learning from some one elses experience

Thanks Ozroder my bike is a 2010 wideglide i ride solo and not at warp speed but as close as i can get to it over a short distance would be nice. So i am really after torque in low to middle range 54h may be more suited to 103 upgrade with 79cc heads.

I have tried to gleen the best combo of what i think would be compatible parts from all the threads on this forum the heads and choice of cam being my main concern. I have been reading all the sales pitch from S&S and it all sounded good to me .

So i have bought the 106 kit from M&M and the andrews 54H cams

i have yet to purchase heads or decompression

Thanks for the offer Skulznflames but i have already purchased the 106 kit.

I may be interested in the heads do they have decompression holes drilled and if so do they suit S&S decompression fitting

    and price PM if possible

    Thanks

    Hi Ando,

Newman has turned to shit without you (LOL)

You may be right about the 89cc heads i dont know enough about it to make an informed decision but a bit higher compression is availiable if i go with the 79cc heads. (10.7)

I cant belive the amount of choices availiable with different components.

    Thanks for your advice

The 54 Cams won't be happy at 10.7, the sweet spot appears to be around 10:1.
What is the volume of the 106 pistons you have ?

    Hi Speedzter,

The 106 kit has not yet arrived all i know about the pistons is what S&S says in their sales blurb (flat top forged) i am pretty sure they are recessed for valve clearance if S&S heads are used. Volume sorry no idea

The sweet spot for 54h may be 10.1 that is what i would get if i left it with stock heads but i would not get the flow .

Excuse the pun but this is getting to be a head fuck

I may just get my own heads worked on if i can find a shop in Perth next time i am down.

I have time as i wont be doing the upgrade for about 3 weeks.

    Thanks for your help

    Ozroder,

What cams would you consider for the 106 with 89cc heads (9.7comp) given that i am more after torque or perhaps am i better of with my own heads if i stick to 54h. I am interested in your opinion because i need as much info as i can get.

    thanks

I have just bought a 50mm throttle body and some stock heads of Pat on the forum as soon as they get here ill take them down to Pinjarra and get them ccd and the valves done.
The S&S kit and 54h cams are in my shed
I have bought jims cam removal and install tool which is coming from Rollies speed shop
I will have a go at it in a few weeks i am in Newman (the arm pit of the earth) at the moment and i have to sqeeze in a week in Bali.
So about the end of March
and the best thing of all if i fuck it up its not an import i can take it to the dealer (that should get a few bites)

    hmmm

              Go to http://www.rollies.com.au/index.php/component/content/article/4-general/6-corporate-article-1

I originally ordered georges garage cam bearing removal and install tools plus other gear such as wrist pin puller and ring compressor

but they phoned me back and said they did not have the cam bearing tools in stock and would be getting in Jims tools instead from the states in the next few weeks. I cant remember how much and dont have the info here at work so best to contact them they are pretty friendly and great service.

I know it an old post but Hartland (spelling may be wrong) sell a cam bearing install and removal tool a lot cheaper than the others and it does a good job. Don't try it without the tool or you might be up for pulling the motor apart to get a few bearing bits out. Bearing tool above also works on the wheel bearings with a big socket over the wheel as a spacer to pull against, because as they have a spacer in the middle as well so its difficult to tap them out without damaging the spacer or wheel, worked well on mine anyway (25mm or 2007 and up). Attached a picture if you buy one off ebay, Amazon or online somewhere.

Anyway how did the 106 and 54H work out?
