Am not too happy with the stock plate holder hanging of my fender. As side mounts seem to attract fines and points I was wondering what others put up or on their fenders. Let's see some pics and ideas.

I have had the US factory side mount on for a year and a half now. Never been pinged for it. All rear mount options are a compromise for me. The clean rear fender look is the neatest to me, but you run the risk with a side mount. TC

Besides flipping my mirrors this was the first thing I modded on my Nightster..
As sicko as side mount plates are it's just too easy for popo to spot and write me up and
I heard without something where your plate is mounted on your fender your back gets
covered in shit flicked up off the road, in the dry and especially the wet..? Is this true?

    Anyways, here's my efforts..

I've got a 'lay down' plate holder at the mo coz I don't like the 'bolt upright' look. One day I'll mount the plate beneath the tombstone taillight coz this gives the fender a longer cleaner look so to speak.

The side mount plates will eventually cop a fine - it's just a matter of time before you run into a Copper who knows that rule.

With slightly more clearance than a sidecar... have you any more photos from different angles? I don't mind side mounts but this shot makes it look a bit 'wide load'.

I got rid of all the original plastic plate holder and bent up some alloy sheet and attached that to the fender bracket if that helps..?

ChopLuey - did you make that tail tidy up or was it a kit? I really like the look of that!!

*Edit - sorry saw what you posted. Thanks mate

No swamp butt from riding with mine either mate. I used to ride with some guys on Ducati monsters, and when they did the tail chop on them, and rode in the rain, they would get majorly wet arses and backs. So far the Iron is fine with the stripped rear fender. TC

Hey Iron 14, that looks like the latest side mount from the parts and accessories catalogue? I got the one factory fitted to the US models, because it was the only one they sold back in 2010. Out of curiosity, does yours just bolt on, or does it replace the entire side fender piece like mine? Also, how much? Mine was $250 when I got it. TC

I just had a play around with my standard plate - removed the backing reflector bits and I'm actually content with how that looks.. If you buy a small strip of reflective tape and place that just above the licence, as long as it is past the rear tyre I cannot see why that would not be legal in QLD.
